SFAI CUP

Torro United Yellow 1–4 Square United Green

Square got off to the perfect start with some brilliant work down the left from Charlie Malone. Charlie whipped a dangerous ball into the box, causing chaos in the Torro defence, and Conor Moran was quickest to react, pouncing on the loose ball to fire Square into an early lead!

Both sides continued to create chances, but Square’s pressure was beginning to tell.

Caobhim Og drove directly at the Torro defence and was brought down just outside the box. Jacob Fay stepped up and delivered a beautifully floated ball into the danger area, where TJ Reilly rose highest to power his header home! A fantastic set-piece and a deserved two-goal cushion for Square!

HALF-TIME: TORRO UNITED YELLOW 0–2 SQUARE UNITED GREEN

Torro came out looking to get back into the game, but Square had other ideas! Jacob Fay pressed brilliantly to win possession before playing the ball into TJ Reilly. TJ showed great awareness to return the pass to Jacob, who made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball home to put Square firmly in control! A superb example of pressing, teamwork and clinical finishing! 👏⚽

The game then became an end-to-end battle, with some scrappy exchanges in midfield as both teams fought hard for possession. Torro managed to pull a goal back midway through the second half with a composed finish, setting up a tense closing period.

With Torro pushing to get back into the game, Square’s defence dug deep, winning some crucial challenges and standing firm under pressure. Then, with just four minutes remaining, TJ Reilly produced another moment of quality! Taking on two players down the left, TJ delivered a superb cross into the box, where Jacob Fay had found space. Jacob kept his composure and finished brilliantly to seal his second goal of the game and put the result beyond doubt!

FULL-TIME: TORRO UNITED YELLOW 1–4 SQUARE UNITED GREEN

A fantastic team performance, with quality goals, hard work across the pitch and a defence that stood strong when it mattered most. Square United green move onto the 3rd round of the Cup.

MATCH REPORT | Square United Red vs Rossin

Both sides came flying out of the blocks in an entertaining encounter, with chances at either end from the opening whistle. Square almost made the perfect start when Matthew McGeogh fired narrowly wide of the post after just two minutes. However, Rossin struck twice in the opening eight minutes to take control of the early exchanges.

Square responded well, and Jay McMullen produced a superb strike from the edge of the box on 15 minutes, only to be denied by the Rossin goalkeeper. Square continued to battle, and on 12 minutes, Finn Carrie stepped up to take a free kick from around 25 yards out. He unleashed a powerful strike that flew into the net — a fantastic goal to give Square a boost!

At the other end, Mark in the Square goal was kept busy, producing a number of excellent saves to keep his side in the contest. Rossin’s lively forwards were causing plenty of problems, but the Square defence worked hard under sustained pressure.

Half-time: Rossin 2–1 Square United

Square came out determined after the break, but Rossin extended their lead five minutes into the second half with a terrific strike into the bottom corner. Square weren’t going to give up without a fight, and Cian produced a moment of real quality just three minutes later, unleashing a magnificent effort from around 20 yards and chipping the Rossin goalkeeper to make it 3–2! 🚀⚽

Unfortunately, a messy scramble in the Square penalty area allowed Rossin to capitalise on a rebound and restore their two-goal advantage. Mark continued to impress in goal, making four outstanding saves in succession as Rossin piled on the pressure. A handball decision then gave Rossin a penalty, which they converted to extend their lead further.

Despite the score line, Square battled right to the final whistle. The effort and determination remained high throughout the closing stages, with Square creating a few promising chances of their own that just wouldn't fall their way.

Full-time: Rossin 5–2 Square United

A tough result for Square, but there were plenty of positives in the battling performance. Heads up, lads — keep working hard, keep believing, and we go again!
