🏆🚴‍♂️ A WELL-DESERVED NOMINATION FOR OUR VERY OWN GARY O’DONNELL! 👏

We are absolutely delighted and incredibly proud to see Gary O’Donnell nominated for the 2026 Volunteers in Sports Awards! 🎉

Gary has dedicated much of his life to cycling, contributing enormously to the sport as a cyclist, coach, club committee member, former Smugglers Chairperson and now Vice Chair of Cycling Ulster.

As one of the founding members of Smugglers Cycling Club in 2013, Gary has been instrumental in shaping the club into what it is today. His wealth of knowledge and experience, particularly in club governance and establishing our constitution, has provided strong foundations for the continued growth of cycling across northwest Cavan and south Fermanagh.

🚴‍♀️ A true champion of cycling for everyone!

Gary has led countless initiatives over the years, including our Sprocket Rockets children's programme and the hugely successful Women on Wheels programme.

His commitment to encouraging female participation is particularly worth celebrating. Female membership at Smugglers stands at an impressive 29%, compared to a national club average of just 18%! 👏 A fantastic achievement and a reflection of the inclusive and welcoming club Gary has helped build.

Gary is also a constant source of encouragement to our members, inspiring them to take on new challenges, from local sportives to national and international races.

Most recently, Gary was the driving force behind Smugglers hosting the 2026 Cycling Ulster Hill Climb Championship on Slieve Rushen, bringing a prestigious provincial event to our doorstep and showcasing our club and local area to the wider cycling community.

But beyond all these achievements, it's Gary's generosity with his time that really stands out. Always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge or offer a word of encouragement, he gives so much to others and asks for nothing in return.

💙 Volunteers are the heartbeat of grassroots sport, and Gary is a shining example of the difference one dedicated person can make!
The awards take place on Thursday 5th November at the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan, and we'll all be cheering him on!

👏 Congratulations, Gary, on a richly deserved nomination! Your dedication, passion and commitment to cycling are an inspiration to us all.

We're incredibly fortunate to have you in our club and we couldn't be prouder! 💙🏆🚴‍♂️

🚴‍♂️ Saturday Spin!☕❄️

A chilly start to this morning’s club spin, but it turned into a lovely morning for getting out on the bikes! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

A well-earned coffee stop at Bedrock Café in Belturbet kept everyone fuelled up for the journey home. ☕🍰

Great to see some new faces joining us too! Always brilliant to welcome new riders along. 👏

Great company, plenty of chat and another enjoyable morning out with the Smugglers crew! 💪🚴

💙 A special day remembering Oisín 💙

Smugglers Cycling Club were proud to come out and support Oisín’s Memorial Walk/Run.

A fantastic turnout for a very special event, bringing people together to remember a much-loved young man and support a truly worthy cause. ❤️

Well done to the organisers, volunteers and everyone who took part. It was a privilege for Smugglers to be part of such a meaningful occasion.

Remembering Oisín 💙

900km cycle in memory of former Smuggler great Seamus “Seamy” McGovern

Seamus McGovern’s family has completed a 900-kilometre cycle across Ireland in memory of the keen cyclist, who died in April 2025 aged 45.

His cousin Daniel Maguire took on the six-day challenge from Malin Head to Mizen Head, cycling around 150km each day.

Seamus’ brother Niall joined Daniel for the first and final legs, riding Seamus’ old bike and wearing his Lakeland Cycle Club jersey.

The journey brought torrential rain, strong headwinds and long days of eight to nine hours in the saddle, but Daniel never considered giving up.

Alongside remembering Seamus and his love of cycling, the challenge has raised more than £7,500 for the Aisling Centre, with the family hoping to reach £10,000.
