The Saints played host to recent SFAI Cup and Premier Cup winners St Joseph’s AFC on Thursday night.

Joeys had a lot of the ball and controlled the early stages of the game, but The Saints more than matched them for effort and strength. The Saints limited Joeys to shots from distance while always looking dangerous on the break.

The second half continued at a frantic pace, and it was The Saints who took the lead midway through the half when striker Kosi broke into the box to set up Ciaran Fletcher, who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.

As expected, Joeys pushed hard for an equaliser, but The Saints’ defence was excellent. Any shots Joeys did get off were saved by keeper Jake Spratt, who was brilliant all night.

In the dying minutes of the game, Joeys grabbed an equaliser from a header. Undeterred, The Saints once again pushed forward and almost took the lead again with the last kick of the game.

Both teams put everything into an excellent game of football, with the draw probably being a fair result.

Player of the Match went to Jude Phelan, who defended resolutely all night under a lot of pressure.
