Our U16 hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start with a five point win over Tulla in Lisbiggeen on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing by 1-9 to 0-9 at half-time, Kilmaley faced into the second half with the aid of a slight breeze. They gradually got on top and a strong scoring display in the final quarter saw them turn the three-point half-time deficit into a 1-20 to 1-15 win.

The boys can now look forward to a quarter-final meeting with Inagh-Kilnamona on November 21st.

Our Minor hurlers wrapped up their campaign by capturing the U17A Shield with an eight-point win over Ballyea in an entertaining final played in very difficult weather conditions on Saturday morning.

With the wind and rain in their favour, Kilmaley led 3-5 to 0-3 at half-time, thanks to goals from Sam Switzer, Keenan Talty and Sean Daly, along with points from Sam,Shane Cahill and Seánie Connellan.

Ballyea fought back after the break, but Switzer’s second goal and a late goal from Seánie ensured the lads secured a deserved win.

Credit to both teams for an entertaining final in challenging conditions.

Full-time: Kilmaley 5-7 Ballyea 2-8

Hard luck to our Junior B hurlers, who bowed out of the championship at the semi-final stage following a narrow one-point defeat to Éire Óg in wet and difficult conditions in Clarecastle on Thursday evening.

Kilmaley made the most of playing with the conditions in the first half, building a four-point lead by the break. With scores hard to come by, points from Jason Pyne, Enda Haren, Pádraig O’Connor and Tomás Clancy helped Kilmaley take a 0-7 to 0-3 lead into half-time.

With heavy rain continuing throughout the second half, Éire Óg found a breakthrough with a goal, followed by a free, to level the game just seven minutes after the restart.

Further points from Jason Pyne, Micheál McGuane and Diarmaid O’Ceallaigh kept Kilmaley in the contest, but another Éire Óg free stretched their lead to two points with time running out. Micheál McGuane added another late point to bring it back to the minimum, but despite a determined effort in the closing stages, the lads finished just short.

Full-time: Kilmaley 0-11 Éire Óg 1-9
