Born on this day in 1921, Ray Lindwall was one of Australia’s great fast bowlers—and one of the most complete cricketers of his generation. He passed away in 1996, aged 74.

What made Lindwall so special was the combination of skill, rhythm and control in his bowling. His action was smooth and beautifully balanced, allowing him to swing the ball both ways with remarkable consistency. He could bring the ball back into the batsman or move it away, change his pace cleverly, and then surprise them with a sharp bouncer or a well-directed yorker. He had pretty much every weapon a fast bowler could want.

During the 1940s and 1950s, Lindwall formed one half of a formidable Australian pace partnership alongside Keith Miller. Together, they played a major role in Australia’s dominance of international cricket during the era.

Lindwall finished his Test career with 228 wickets at an outstanding average of 23.03. Perhaps even more tellingly, 43% of those wickets came through bowled dismissals—a reflection of how accurately he attacked the stumps. His best Test figures were 7 for 38, and he took 12 five-wicket hauls.

And Lindwall was far from a bowler who simply held a bat. As a useful lower-order batsman, he scored 1,502 Test runs, including two centuries and five fifties.

In an era blessed with great fast bowlers, Ray Lindwall stood out for the sheer completeness of his game. He had pace, movement, control and the ability to unsettle batsmen in so many different ways.

उन्होंने उसे एयरपोर्ट पर देखा। उसकी शर्ट और उसके डिम्पल्स ने उनका दिल जीत लिया। मनाली अपनी माँ के साथ यात्रा कर रही थीं, तभी उन्होंने पहली बार मुंबई एयरपोर्ट पर दिलीप वेंगसरकर को देखा। बाद में उन्होंने बताया कि उन्हें उनकी हर चीज़ बहुत पसंद आई थी। उनकी शर्ट। उनके डिम्पल्स। यहाँ तक कि उनके गले में पहनी लकड़ी और हाथी-दाँत की छोटी-छोटी मोतियों की माला भी। उनकी माँ को उनसे पूछना पड़ा, "तुम्हें शर्ट पसंद है या वो आदमी?" 😅 लेकिन यह सिर्फ़ कुछ समय के लिए हुआ आकर्षण नहीं था। वे एक-दूसरे को जानने लगे, उन्हें प्यार हो गया और आखिरकार 1981 में उन्होंने शादी कर ली। मनाली तब सिर्फ़ 20 साल की थीं। उन्होंने 18 साल की उम्र में ही अपना बिज़नेस शुरू कर दिया था और लेदर एक्सेसरीज़ एक्सपोर्ट करने वाली एक फ़ैक्टरी चलाती थीं। शादी के बाद, वह माँ बनीं और बाद में ज्वेलरी डिज़ाइन में अपना करियर बनाया। सालों बाद, वह शिक्षा और समाज सेवा के कामों से भी जुड़ीं। और उन्होंने कभी भी खुद को सिर्फ़ "एक क्रिकेटर की पत्नी" के तौर पर नहीं देखा। दिलीप वेंगसरकर आगे चलकर भारत के महान टेस्ट बल्लेबाज़ों में से एक बने। लेकिन इतने सारे रन, रिकॉर्ड और क्रिकेट की विरासत से बहुत पहले, मुंबई एयरपोर्ट पर एक लड़की ने उन्हें एक बार देखा और सोचा: शायद यही वो इंसान है। ❤️

He turns 92 today, and Lance Gibbs remains one of the great names in West Indies cricket history — and the oldest living ODI cricketer.

With his slender frame and remarkably long fingers, Gibbs was able to extract sharp turn and bounce from the pitch. Add to that his relentless accuracy and that unusual chest-on action, and you had a spinner who could trouble even the best batsmen.

Gibbs also etched his name into the record books by becoming the first spinner, and only the second cricketer overall, to reach 300 Test wickets. He eventually finished with 309 wickets, and for a time, held the world record for the most Test wickets.

Perhaps his finest bowling performance came against India in Barbados, where he produced extraordinary figures of 8 for 38. Even more remarkable, he took all eight wickets in a spell of just 15 overs, conceding only six runs.

His career economy rate of 1.98 remains the best among bowlers with 200 or more Test wickets — a remarkable reflection of just how difficult he was to score against.

🏏🇦🇺 Wally Grout – One of Australia’s Greatest Wicketkeepers ❤️❤️❤️

Australian cricket has produced many legendary wicketkeepers, but few earned as much respect as Arthur Theodore Wallace "Wally" Grout. Born in Mackay, Queensland, on 30 March 1927, Grout became Australia's first-choice wicketkeeper from 1957 to 1966 and built a reputation for courage, skill, and unmatched determination behind the stumps.

Grout played 51 Test matches for Australia, claiming 163 catches and 24 stumpings, while also scoring 890 Test runs. His sharp reflexes, brilliant footwork, and fearless wicketkeeping made him one of the finest glovemen of his era. On his Test debut against South Africa in 1957, he created history by taking six catches in a single innings, a record at the time.

Before becoming an Australian star, Grout spent years waiting for his opportunity behind Queensland legend Don Tallon. Once he secured the position, he never looked back. His performances for Queensland and Australia earned admiration from teammates and opponents alike, with many cricket greats regarding him as one of the best wicketkeepers they had ever seen.

Known as "The Voice" for his constant chatter behind the stumps and later nicknamed "The Griz," Grout brought energy and personality to every match. His competitive spirit, sense of humour, and loyalty to his teammates made him a beloved figure in Australian cricket.

Sadly, Wally Grout passed away in 1968 at just 41 years of age, only a few years after retiring from cricket. Yet his legacy remains strong. In 2016, he was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to a man who helped define wicketkeeping excellence for a generation.
