The Board Game Lounge

Hello everybody! As we prepare to reopen, one of the things we’re looking to do is hire someone to help us teach games. To start off, we’re looking for someone who can come in on weekends - if things go well, we can then transition to full-time if that works for both sides 🙂

What are we looking for? Primarily, the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people - you’ll meet a lot of folks in this job, and helping them explore this hobby is the most important thing you’ll be doing. Apart from that, we’re looking for someone who is:

Passionate about board games (I mean…yeah)

Good at learning games and picking up rules

Fluent in Tamil

The Lounge turns 7 today! :)) Here are seven sevens, can you identify them all?

It's hard to believe we opened on this day 7 whole years ago :) It's been a scarcely believable journey - when we started, there were 0 board game cafes in the city, and we had no idea how Chennai would react - and now there’s 15+ or something crazy like that! We love this city and this hobby, and we're excited to see where it goes next. :)

Anyway, how are all of you doing? We’re feeling rested and recharged, and we’re looking forward to welcoming all of you back to the Lounge (more on that soon!).

Hey folks! We have some news.

We’re going to be taking some time off, from now until sometime in February. This will be our first proper break in six years (except for Covid but let’s not talk about that) and we have lots of home and health and fam things that need attention! Hoping to come back rejuvenated and organised and with a little more energy to give you guys than we’ve had lately.

We’re also excited to do some new stuff at the Lounge, which we’ll be working on as well! Getting another room ready and adding more menu items have been on the agenda for a while, and we’ll be looking to hire a couple of people to help with teaching so we can sit around and do art and make snarky comments like God intended. (Just kidding! Mostly. Haha. Ha.)

Anyway, watch this space for more updates! We’ll be posting some of the games we’ll finally be able to get played. And don’t worry about all the BGL cats, we are absolutely continuing to feed and take care of them over the break. :) We’ll miss you guys, but we’ll be back soon! ✨

Harmonies! A lovely little tile placement game where you're using tokens to create the right habitats for your animals, in patterns that match your unique scoring cards. Give it a shot next time you're by!

Cosy moment from the last few months with Endeavor: Age of Sail, a great euro strategy game for 2-5 players where you're spreading your insurance and control to unexplored areas of the word to, well, colonise them 😬 It combines engine building, area control and resource management to create an elegant yet crunchy puzzle that's different every time you play it.

River of Gold! One of the biggest hits of last year, and we can see why. Ridiculously straightforward - roll a die on your turn and then choose how to use it, whether that's sailing downriver, satisfying customer demand or constructing a building (the way the buildings work reminds us of Lords of Waterdeep a little). That simple choice can spawn so many options that it's reminiscent of Castles of Burgundy albeit much simpler. A very accessible yet rich gameplay experience. GUESS WHO'S HERE aaaah and we're so excited to table this guy! Wingspan and Wyrmspan have both been excellent and really popular at our tables, couldn't wait to get our paws on this one as soon as it was announced. Gameplay photos coming soon!
