Frederik Svane scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 points to win the 3rd Edition of Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026. In the last round, Svane scored an important victory over Murali Karthikeyan, who was co-leading with him after 8 rounds.
Haik M Martirosyan, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Mamikon Gharibyan scored an unbeaten 7/9 points to finish in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, respectively, according to tiebreak scores.

26 days ago, the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament concluded in the picturesque village of Pegia, near Paphos, Cyprus. Yevgeny Levanzov had the privilege of spending an extended time at the event and also delivering three lectures there. In the following review, he will try to cover the tournament both from a professional chess perspective and by describing the surrounding atmosphere, including the various activities offered to spectators, notable figures who came to visit, and some touching human stories.

Hans Niemann played some tremendous chess to win the Grand Chess Tour Super Rapid and Blitz 2026. Hans got an early lead in the Rapid section that helped him maintain it in the blitz. Fabiano Caruana came very close to first place, but in the end, he was not able to keep up with Hans' half-point lead. Check out how Hans, who was tired and sick, managed to win in this strong field.

Grandmaster Frederik Svane is the Champion of Sardinia World Chess Festival Group A 2026! Frederik scored a crucial win in the final round, taking down Karthikeyan Murali with the White pieces to become the Champion scoring 7.5/9 points. The German star will take home 10,000 Euros - if you remember, Frederik also eliminated the World Champion D Gukesh at the FIDE World Cup 2025!
Haik Martirosyan was in some trouble out of the opening against Paul Velten, but turned it around and went on to win, finishing 2nd scoring 7/9 points! Ian Nepomniachtchi played an excellent game with the White pieces to defeat Faustino Oro, thus finishing 3rd with 7/9 points.

Meet Elena Mishra. She is just 4 years and 3 months old. Elena won Odisha state U-7 girls championship with a perfect 7/7 score. She is the youngest to win a state title.
Few days ago she scored 6/8 in state u-9 girls and finished third.
This is her second year participating in state level tournaments.
She is the daughter of GM Swayams Mishra and is mainly trained by her mother - Chandrima Ghosh. She goes for practice sessions to Chessturf Chess academy headed by LSI Satyakam Swayangsu and Indikids chess Academy - coach IA Nihar Ranjan Sasmal.
We wish Elena the best in her chess journey to keep improving and getting better!

After the Grand Chess Tour Super Rapid and Blitz tournament ended, the Indian embassy of Warsaw, Poland invited the Chess community for a session! Among the invited were Sagar Shah, Lukasz Turlej, and two members of the Superbet Team. There was a lecture held by Sagar, many chess games with the audience and a nice meet and greet session!
