Nearly 100 years before India cheered for its tennis champions, one woman had already made history.

Lady Meherbai Tata became India's first woman tennis Olympian at the 1924 Paris Olympics, playing in a saree.

Years later, when Tata Steel was on the verge of bankruptcy, she mortgaged her priceless jewellery, including the legendary Jubilee Diamond, to help save the company. That one decision didn't just rescue a business, it helped protect India's industrial future.

A trailblazer on and off the court, Meherbai also championed women's rights, education, and social reform. Her jewellery would later help establish Tata Memorial Hospital and TISS.

Some legacies aren't written in record books. They're woven into a nation's future.
