Rally di Roma Capitale 2026: A Completely New Route Through the Great Beauty of Rome and the Most Spectacular Roads of Central Italy
The new headquarters in the EUR district will be just the beginning. With the start confirmed at the Colosseum, a new finish line on Via della Conciliazione just steps from St. Peter’s Square, and a completely redesigned route in the province of Rieti, the 2026 Rally di Roma Capitale is preparing to write a new chapter in its history.
The Rally di Roma Capitale is undergoing a major transformation. The 2026 edition of the event, organized by Motorsport Italia and conceived by Max Rendina, will feature a completely redesigned route, new iconic locations in the heart of Rome, and brand-new special stages set to become highlights of both the FIA European Rally Championship and the Italian Absolute Rally Championship (CIAR Sparco).
The first major innovation concerns the event’s operational center. All activities will be concentrated in the EUR district, which will become the beating heart of the rally. The Salone delle Fontane will host the Rally HQ, while the Service Park will be set up just a short distance from the Square Colosseum, creating a modern and efficient logistics hub perfectly integrated into one of the city’s most symbolic neighborhoods. A dedicated Fan Zone will also be established, offering spectators not only the chance to experience the excitement of service operations but also enjoy entertainment and leisure activities designed for all ages.
Rome itself will take center stage during the opening evening. On Friday, July 3, crews will drive through the historic center of the capital before reaching Via degli Annibaldi for the official start ceremony. From there, they will immediately tackle the spectacular “Colosseo ACI Roma” special stage, a one-of-a-kind timed section where rally cars will compete at the foot of the Colosseum, set against the stunning backdrop of Colle Oppio. It is an image destined once again to travel around the world and reinforce the Rally di Roma Capitale’s status as one of the most spectacular and recognizable events in international rallying.
The conclusion of the event will also be completely renewed. The final podium ceremony will take place on Via della Conciliazione, with St. Peter’s Basilica providing an extraordinary backdrop for the prize-giving ceremony. This prestigious setting will offer a finale worthy of the event’s international stature.
From a sporting perspective, the route has been entirely reimagined, featuring new or heavily revised special stages that will take crews through some of the most spectacular roads in Lazio.
The “Tuscolo” stage, used as the Qualifying Stage, will begin in the heart of Frascati, just a short walk from the city’s main square. After a particularly spectacular opening hairpin, the route climbs toward Tuscolo, passing through a natural chicane near the summit before launching into a technical and rhythmic descent.
The “Vallecupola” stage will connect Castel di Tora and Longone Sabino, running partly along the shores of Lake Turano. After the start in the town center, the road becomes narrower and more technical as it climbs to an altitude of 1,200 meters. It is a flowing, fast, and highly spectacular stage set within a beautiful natural landscape.
Among the most anticipated stages is “Piana di Rascino,” destined to become one of the key moments of the entire rally. Following a wide and fast opening section, the road transforms into a natural roller coaster before reaching the Acquilente plateau, where spectators will enjoy expansive views of more than two kilometers of special stage from an easily accessible area. The stage climbs beyond 1,600 meters above sea level, alternating very fast sections, narrower stretches, and hairpins that constantly disrupt the rhythm.
The “Colle di Tora – Poggio Moiano” stage will start in Posticciola and initially follow the opposite side of Lake Turano from the Vallecupola stage. One of its most distinctive features will be the passage near the dam, a particularly scenic location for television coverage and photography. The second half of the stage will feature a climb with panoramic viewpoints, followed by a descent toward Poggio Moiano.
Sunday will begin with the “Monastero – Monte Livata” stage, which in its opening kilometers will revisit one of the most appreciated sections from previous editions. After starting near the famous tunnels carved into the rock, the stage climbs toward Monte Livata along a highly spectacular section of road.
The rally will conclude with the “Canterano – Gerano” stage, created from the first section of the long special stage used in 2025. This particularly intense and spectacular test is characterized by a sequence of downhill hairpins that will demand precision and bravery right up to the final kilometers of the event. On its second pass, the stage will also serve as the Power Stage, awarding bonus points and likely playing a decisive role in the battle for victory.
