A Heartfelt Thank You!

The Old Nalandians' Sports Club (ONSC) extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Parakum Ovitigala for his recent visit to Nalanda College and for taking the time to review the progress of the Nalanda Centenary Building Project and the ONSC Centennial Grounds Project.

Following discussions with the Principal, the President of ONSC, and the Project Chairman, Dr. Ovitigala generously pledged Rs. 5 million towards these landmark initiatives, while also expressing his willingness to continue supporting their future development.

We are deeply grateful for his unwavering support to ONSC and Nalanda College over the years. His generosity and commitment to uplifting education and sports continue to inspire us all.

We wish Dr. Ovitigala good health, happiness, and continued success in the many charitable endeavors he undertakes across Sri Lanka.

NALANDA CRICKET CENTENARY MAGAZINE

As part of the celebration of 100 Years of Cricket at Nalanda College, the Old Nalandians' Sports Club (ONSC) invites all Nalandians, former cricketers, officials, teachers, and well-wishers to contribute to the Nalanda Cricket Centenary Magazine.

We welcome:

• Memorable incidents and experiences from Big Matches and season matches

• Interesting anecdotes involving players, teams, coaches, officials and supporters

• Rare photographs, newspaper cuttings, scorecards, souvenirs and other cricket memorabilia

• Big Match Souvenirs published prior to 1950

Submissions may be in English or Sinhala and, where possible, accompanied by photographs or supporting material.

Selected contributions will become part of a permanent historical record preserved in the Nalanda Archives and School Library for future generations.

A historic milestone for Nalanda Sports

The Ground Breaking Ceremony of the “ONSC Centennial Grounds” - an alternative practice ground for sports other than cricket, was successfully held with the participation of the Principal of Nalanda College Mr Iran Champika Silva, President of the Old Nalandians’ Sports Club Mr Dinuka Chandraratne and Old Nalandian Dr. Ranjith Pathirana, who had the honour of breaking the soil for the very first time.

The occasion also witnessed the acknowledgment of several generous donations received towards this landmark project, reflecting the unity and commitment of the Nalanda fraternity towards building better sporting facilities for future generations.

Sports Evaluation & Strategy Planning Session 2026 – Day 1

On the request of the Principal Mr Iran Champika Silva, the Sports Strategy Development Committee of the (ONSC) initiated the Sports Evaluation & Strategy Planning Session 2026 covering 24 sports.

Day 1 of the programme was held today (19th May) at the ONSC Secretariat with discussions focused on 12 sports. The college management was represented by the Deputy Principal – Sports and the Prefect of Games, while ONSC was represented by Sports Strategy Development Committee Chairman Dilhan Jayasundara, Patron Jayantha Seneviratne, Programme Head Dr. Sidath Waidyasekera, Maleen Dimantha and Rajeew Gamage. The programme was also observed by the President and the General Secretary of ONSC.

Special appreciation goes to Games Captain Isiatha Wikramaarachchi for coordinating the programme successfully.

MICs, Coaches and Captains of the respective sports participated in extensive discussions regarding the progress of each sport, future plans, challenges faced and the support required for further development.

Following the completion of the two-day evaluation process, ONSC expects to present a comprehensive master plan to the Principal summarising the findings, recommendations and proposed actions for the development of sports at Nalanda in the coming year.
