REST IN PEACE, ELIZABETH “TSONTSO” MOSELAKGOMO 🕊️
The Metropolitan Miles of Hope Marathon extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, fellow runners and loved ones of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo.
Elizabeth’s tragic passing has deeply affected the running community and once again confronts us with the painful reality of the violence, fear and insecurity experienced by women every day. A woman should never have to choose between pursuing her passion and protecting her life. She should be able to run, walk, work and move freely through her community without fear of harassment, violence or never returning home.
Safe roads are not a privilege—they are a fundamental right. Our streets, trails and public spaces must belong equally to women. Protecting women requires more than words of sympathy; it demands stronger accountability, safer communities, responsive institutions and the courage of every person to challenge gender-based violence wherever it appears.
As an event founded on hope, inclusion and the empowerment of women and children, the Metropolitan Miles of Hope Marathon stands firmly against all forms of gender-based violence. We join with the people of Lesotho and the global running community in calling for justice, safety and meaningful protection for every woman and girl.
Today, we run with heavy hearts. We run in Elizabeth’s memory, in solidarity with her family and for every woman whose freedom has been restricted by fear. May her story strengthen our collective determination to create a world in which every runner leaves home knowing they will return safely.
Rest peacefully, Elizabeth. Your footsteps will continue to echo through the running community, and your memory will never be forgotten.
Our roads must be safe.
Our women must be protected.
Our voices must never fall silent.
