Studio Spotlight ✨ but a slightly different one this time.

Dù Theatre's Ħobżna ta' Kuljum opens tonight, and you might notice there are no polaroids stuck to this poster. If we started adding one for everyone in and around the show we'd like to spotlight, you wouldn't be able to see the poster anymore 😅

To name just a few: Matthew Dimech Genuis is currently part of our one-to-one acting mentorship programme. Robyn Vella was our admin and part of the team for what feels like an eternity. Denise, our Project Manager, has been part of the Studio for eight years. Magdalena van Kuilenburg is a long term collaborator, and took charge of our 2022 edition of FOSDQA. Honestly, it feels like the entire Dù team has worked with us at some point along the way.

Then there's Simone Spiteri, who wrote and directed the show and has led Dù for 22 years. Simone is probably our longest-standing collaborator, and an essential part of the Studio team. She's led programmes for us and is still one of our Creative Advisors. She's also written five of our shows, with a new one coming soon 👀 She is, without a doubt, the Studio's best friend.

We're so proud of this powerhouse of a team and can't wait to cheer them on through the run. Catch it if you can, but be quick, there's only a couple tickets left for Monday 21st as it's almost sold out.

Ruth is on our one-to-one acting programme, and tonight she's backstage at the MADC Playhouse running the show as ASM on The Actor's Nightmare 🔥

The play, being performed for a 2nd time tonight, is directed by Maya Micallef Engerer, with Miguel Formosa, Sarah Farrugia, Bianca Casaletto, Maria Weatherill and Matthew Ben Attard.

Second and final performance tonight at 7:30pm, MADC Playhouse, St. Venera. Tickets at madc.com.mt, go support! ❤️

Last week we attended ITAC8, the International Teaching Artistry Collaborative, where the focus was becoming better leaders and mentors for young people and adults alike. Our time at was also spent reconnecting with people and diving into conversations about teaching artistry, Europe, and how we can bring it home to Malta ❤️

We're incredibly grateful to Madeleine McGirk Rutherford, Artistic Director of ITAC, for giving us an hour of her time - picking her brain and kicking off conversations on how to keep growing this practice, both in Malta and across Europe.

Equally special was an elevator pitch that turned into a coffee catch-up with Jamie Mackay, Head of Postgraduate Learning and Teaching Programmes at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Jean-Marc Cafa` reconnected with his former MEd tutor, and together we dug into the timely links between Scotland and Malta 💥

Three of ours are getting on planes! 🛫

Julia's off to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for a masters in directing classical & contemporary text. Alex is heading to Zurich for an MA in Theatre at ZHdK. And Adam (who currently runs our marketing, so this is a genuinely strange one to be writing 🤪) is going to Barcelona for an acting degree at the Institute of the Arts.

All three came through the Creative Lab programme! Julia did Muso with us as well, and they've all been collaborating with us for years now.

We're going to miss them enormously, and we're extremely smug about where they're all going 😆 Go and show them what you've got 💙

The team will be taking a little summer break from 7th–23rd August to recharge, reset, and come back full of fresh ideas.

Four of ours in one cast & crew 👀
magri , , and .geeklings have all come through Creative Lab at some point, and they're part of the madness that is 'Il-Kunsill tat-Triq' - gig theatre that puts hip hop and theatre in the same room and lets them go at it 🤘

It’s easily one of the coolest concepts we’ve had the pleasure of watching come to life. They opened on Sunday, and everything we’ve heard since has been brilliant.

One show left on the 9th, and there's only a couple of tickets left. You so shouldn't sit on this one 💙

June and July have been full. Ours internally, and going by how much alumni news we've been sharing, seemingly yours might have been too 🧘

It's easy to look up in the middle of all that and realise the summer has been happening without you. The sea is right there, and it won't be this warm for long.

Wellness has always been something we take seriously around here, and that isn't changing. Take the afternoon. Go swim. It'll all still be there on Monday. Take care of yourselves 💙

Yesterday, we had the privilege of joining the birthday celebrations of our wonderful Wellness Advisor, Rebecca Scicluna, surrounded by so many familiar faces 💛

Some of the very first Studio 18 members and core team all back in one room, thirteen years on from when it began. Looking around was a lovely reminder of the friendships, memories, and community that have grown over the years. Same faces (a few more grey hairs 😅) still showing up for each other.

Here’s to Rebecca, and to many more years together 🧡✨ Happy lucky birthday Rebecca - thank you for being you, and for all you do!

At this point we're convinced has a permanent reservation in our Spotlight series. We've featured him more than anyone else... mainly because he refuses to take a break 😅

This time, he's stepping into one of theatre's most iconic roles as Hamlet in MADC's production of Shakespeare's Hamlet, directed by Michael Mangion. If there's one performance you don't want to miss this season, this is it ❤️
