The Malta Table Tennis Association is aware of a recent public post published by an affiliated club which contains a number of serious allegations regarding league fixtures, tournament scheduling and the conduct of MTTA officials.
In the interest of transparency and accuracy, the MTTA wishes to provide the following clarification.
1. Official Fixtures and Calendar
The fixture list published on the Challonge platform has served as the official schedule since the start of the season. These fixtures were communicated to all clubs and are also printed on the league score sheets issued prior to the first round.
The calendars circulated in early September were explicitly described as provisional, pending venue confirmations. Only one fixture, Match Day 5, was amended, due solely to the unavailability of the University Gym due to a Champions League futsal event. This change was communicated to all clubs on the 12th of November.
No changes to the sequence of matches or the integrity of the draw have been made by the MTTA.
2. Allegations of Preferential Treatment
The MTTA categorically denies that any league or ranking tournament was altered to benefit any specific player or club. As far as the Administration of MTTA is concerned, this is just an unfounded allegation and no evidence has been presented to support these claims.
In fact, requests from clubs to alter fixtures for convenience were consistently rejected by the MTTA, ensuring equal treatment across all participants.
3. Protecting the Sport and the Community
Public dissemination of unverified allegations harms the integrity of the sport, the reputation of volunteers and officials and the orderly functioning of MTTA competitions.
The MTTA requests that all affiliated clubs and members use official communication channels for raising queries or concerns, so matters may be addressed professionally and without unnecessary disturbance within the community.
4. Formal Notice Issued to the Club
The MTTA has formally issued a warning to the club in question that the allegations published are unverified and inconsistent with the obligations of an affiliated entity under the MTTA Statute which could lead to temporary or permanent suspension if they persist.
5. Commitment to Transparency and Fair Play
The Malta Table Tennis Association remains fully committed to fairness, transparency, equal treatment for all clubs and players, safeguarding minors, compliance with regulations and maintaining the integrity and reputation of Maltese table tennis.
The MTTA will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard the sport and ensure that any concerns are handled responsibly through the proper channels.
