So, why, in the most critical professional story we ever tell—our resume—have we abandoned this ancient, powerful technology?
Your resume is probably a list of responsibilities. “ Managed social media accounts.” “Responsible for customer outreach.” “Oversaw quarterly budget.” These are the ghosts of tasks, the faded outlines of jobs once held. They are cave paintings of bison with no hunt, no spear, no struggling hunter. They tell a hiring manager what you were assigned, but they say absolutely nothing about what you achieved. They are, to put it bluntly, boring. And in a world where a recruiter might spend only seven seconds glancing at your life’s work, boring is a death sentence.

The antidote isn't a fancier font or a more creative layout. The antidote is a story. And the simplest, most powerful storytelling framework for your career is known as the STAR method.
STAR is an acronym for Situation , Task , Action , and Result . It sounds deceptively simple, like a corporate mnemonic from a half-forgotten training seminar. But within those four letters lies a narrative engine capable of transforming a flat, lifeless bullet point into a compelling miniature epic of your professional competence. It’s the difference between saying " _I cooked dinner"_ and narrating the challenge of an empty pantry, the creative mission to craft a meal, the specific actions of dicing and sautéing, and the final, delicious triumph.

For individuals in Nigeria, where the economy is particularly sensitive to global shocks due to its heavy reliance on oil revenue, a high import dependency, and a volatile foreign exchange market, preparing for economic uncertainties stemming from events like Iran-US tensions isn't about predicting the future, but about building resilience.

Understanding the Transmission Channels

First, it's crucial to understand how these global tensions hit home in Nigeria:

1. Oil Price Volatility: Tensions often cause a spike in global oil prices. While this ought to temporarily boosts government revenue, our only functional refinery (Dangote) still imports crude oil. This is major as it leads to higher production costs which in turn leads to high living costs.

2. Naira Volatility : A spike in oil prices usually leads to increased dollar inflow, which should strengthen the Naira. However, speculation, panic, and a rush to hedge against uncertainty often create a severe scarcity of dollars, causing the parallel market rate to diverge wildly from the official rate. This makes imports more expensive.

3. Inflation : Nigeria is a net importer of refined petroleum, machinery, and even basic goods. A global oil price surge translates directly to higher petrol, diesel, and transportation costs, which then cascade into the price of food, rent, and everything else.

4. Capital Flight: Global uncertainty makes emerging markets like Nigeria less attractive to foreign portfolio investors, who pull money out, further stressing the forex reserves and the Naira.
