Looking back upon the celebration of 20 years of Heihokan, our sister dojo south of the border.

It was a pleasure and an honour to be there for it.

Many thanks to Joe Thambu Shihan, Christ Johnston Shihan from Aikido Shindokan and Christophe Gester Sensei for their teaching and to all the Heihokan members for their warm hospitality.

It was great to see our friends from Czechia again and to meet new friends who travelled from far to take part in the seminar.

Anthony Chong begon op 15‑jarige leeftijd met Aikido en heeft inmiddels meer dan 35 jaar ervaring. Al vanaf zijn 16de reisde hij de wereld over om seminars te volgen en zich verder te ontwikkelen.
Van 1999 tot 2021 was hij in de zomer Uchi Deshi onder Yamada Sensei, Donovan Waite Sensei en Sugano Sensei. Daarnaast trainde hij onder meer bij Steven Seagal, Haruo Matsuoka Sensei, Isoyama Sensei, Osawa Sensei en de Doshu.

A couple more days, and we are off to a weekend of exceptional aikido instruction at our sister dojo in Belgium!

It was nearly 30 years ago that I discovered Aikido at Shudokan dojo in Melbourne, Australia. Training full-time and then living at the dojo for three years (1997-2000) gave the solid foundation that has carried me through many of life’s ups and downs over the years. Joe Thambu Sensei has been a constant guide through all those year. A great teacher and promoter of Aikido, he has been the proverbial rising tide that lifted all the boats floating on it.

Later training and teaching, and living alongside Thambu Sensei’s uncle Thamby Rajah Sensei at the original Shudokan dojo in Seremban, Malaysia cemented that connection with the practice and history of Aikido (2002-2004).

It gives me immense pride to bring Shudokan name to Netherlands.
At the conclusion of our first seminar hosting Joe Thambu Sensei, I received the official certificate of our dojo as a member of Aikido Shudokan International.

We teach Yoshinkan system of Aikido which for many will be just the right blend of Aikido principles and techniques, practical self defence, and athleticism that makes them fall in love with this amazing art.
I look forward to sharing the joy and benefits of practicing Aikido with many in the years ahead.

Looking for sports hall/dojo space in Amsterdam for March 17-18

Does anybody know of a dojo with tatami/judo mats that might be available on March 17-18?

We are organising a seminar with a visiting international teacher, and unfortunately the space planned for it will be unavailable because of the Amsterdam Gemeente elections taking place on the 18th.

Ideally, a hall with mat spaces of around 150 square meters.
If not on those days, then March 16-17, or March 16 + 18 March might also work.
