Alas all good things must come to an end and yesterday we played the final event in our Winter 2-4-2 series.
With a full green every week, strongly competitive teams, unbelievable weather and great organisation by Roger and Donna, this has been a highlight of our calendar and one that we will be eagerly anticipating next year.
With 7 teams all having 3 wins the contest for the prize money was a very close run thing. Congratulations go to:
1st: Ian D & Paul D (3 wins/20 ends)
2nd: Kerry & Colin (3 wins/18 ends/40 points)
3rd: Donna & Jane (3 wins/18 ends/37 points)
Thank you Summerset St John's and Judy for your generous sponsorship of this winter series – it has been a memorable 10 weeks.

Spotted on the green yesterday making the most of this glorious weather 😎.
"I see skies of blue, and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world."

The penultimate round of our 2-4-2 winter series yesterday brought a deja-vue moment for Sam and John. Despite winning all 4 games for the second time this month they were again destined to be bridesmaids! A superb performance by Pauline and Anne saw them sneak into lead with just a narrow 2-end margin 🤩🤩😎😎.
Judy, from our wonderful series-long sponsors, Summerset St John's, joined us as she does every week. Judy presented the lucky team prize - a $75 voucher for dinner at the Summerset Bistro 😄😁. Lucky winners were Jane Field and Jane Seagar 🥳🥳.

Going the Extra End
Today Bowls Auckland celebrates Extra End Hero – our own Bronwyn Holdsworth!
Bronwyn's unwavering dedication and generosity have made a lasting impact at St Heliers Bowling Club. In his citation, Roger Seaton describes Bronwyn as someone who consistently goes above and beyond, whether organising a remarkable number of corporate events, supporting fellow members, filling volunteer gaps, or helping keep club operations running smoothly as a board member.
Known for her kindness, leadership, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life, Bronwyn has helped foster a positive and welcoming culture within the club. Since joining St Heliers, her enthusiasm, professionalism, and selfless commitment have inspired those around her and strengthened the club community.
Congratulations, Bronwyn, and thank you for everything you do. You are a truly deserving Extra End Hero!

Week 8 of our winter 2-4-2 bowls competition and great to have new teams in the money. However . . . . only one pair managed to score the elusive 4 wins! Top job Gavin Baker and Andrew Bernau 😎😎. Thank you again Summerset St John's for your ongoing sponsorship of this event.

16 teams took to the green yesterday in sunny but very breezy conditions. Interestingly there were no 3 game winners! Several teams scored 2.5 but the big (🤣🤣)prize-money went to the 2 teams who did not miss a beat.
1st: Donna and Jane – 4 wins/21 ends
2nd: Sam and John M – 4 wins/19 ends
Judy from Summerset St John's was with us again and flagged their open days – each Wednesday this month 10am-2pm. These are a great opportunity to view this stunning new complex with several SHBC members already in residence. 😎
@ Bryan Chapman: Do hope the body is not too sore today in the aftermath of your massive drive!

It's Champ of Champs triples tomorrow so rattle your dags supporters! 😅😅.
Donna, Paula and Jane S meet the Grey Lynn trio skipped by Rima Strickland. They are in the round of 16 playing at Remuera at 12.00.
Kerry, Nick and Andrew face off against Maraetai Bowling Club in the round of 32 at New Lynn at 9.00.
As both venues are under cover, the weather will not play a part so we can anticipate some great play from both teams 😎😁. Go well guys 🥳.

Donna and Paul played over the weekend in the National 1-5 Singles Champ of Champs. The event, organised by Auckland Bowling Club rather than Bowls Auckland, ran somewhat under our radar and we apologise for the lack of advance notification. It was organised by Paul Neazor from Auckland Bowling Club who did a fantastic job creating a brilliant weekend 😊.
Both Paul & Donna qualified for the final 16. Paul lost his first match but played in the plate and came runner-up. Donna progressed through to the semi final of the championship where she lost to Crawford from Glendowie who won the tournament. 👏👏. Thank you very much to their markers, Michael Gibson and Jane Seagar.
