Iron Warriors is a free training program run at Skyfit24 Gym Dunedin for anyone with long term physi Started by me in 2015. Psychologically it's massive as well.
IRON Warriors is an EXTREMELY PASSIONATE rehabilitation (Non-for-profit) organisation based out of Skyfit24 gym in central Dunedin from 10.00am until 1145am on Monday - Friday. We aim to provide FREE support & training for a variety of long term injuries and help educate various aspects allowing ongoing progression, taking into consideration exercise, nutritional advice, functional movement and su
pport no matter what disability. Just $5 per session for gym use (to the gym owner, not us)...unless you have sponsorship for the gym usage - which we will help you obtain. Our team of Myself (Nick Chisholm), Jack Murray, Harper Thein-Pye & Lily Rawson all help develope a variety of very different 'out of the box' ideas & training techniques for each individual warrior. My accident was in July of 2000, I have over 23 years of rehabilitation knowledge and experience, living with locked in syndrome, my own physio rehabilitation & attending Skyfit gym since leaving hospital in 2002, & can apply this knowledge to any other disability...
Jack Murray is another one of Nick’s rehab assistants. He is currently studying sport, exercise, and health at the Otago Polytechnic & working for Habit Health. Seeing everyone’s hard work pay off is his favorite part of working at Iron Warriors. Harper Thein-Pye is another one of Nick's rehab assistants, currently completing his Bachelor of Applied Science at Otago Polytechnic, majoring in Exercise Science. He enjoys being part of the Iron Warriors support team, and seeing the social and mental wellbeing benefits for members. Iron Warriors is a vibrant, welcoming, safe environment for people suffering from any long term disability to develope these important skills, to meet new and understanding people and find a "home" with zero discrimination that is extremely supportive. Our long term goals are to continue providing both an enjoyable and successful environment for these people to continue their rehab, improving both physiologically and psychologically. Members of IRON warriors have finished going through their hospital treatments therefore we have created an environment where they can come into the gym, feel comfortable and continue with rehabilitation & continue to make gains towards their individual goals. When required we happily work in conjunction with their physio and rehab plans, continually helping IRON warriors progress over a long period of time. Not only does the exercise itself benefit the IRON warriors, but simply getting out of home and socialising with regular gym members has proven to be extremely beneficial...
The biggest thing each new IRON warrior can learn from other IRON warriors will be SOCIALISING with the public & learning how to interact with able bodied people & other iron warriors with a variety of different disabilities (eg. M.S, paraplegia, C.P, strokes, M.D, cancer, brain tumours, traumatic brain injuries, etc.) and how to adapt to meet their individual demands and ultimately help each other strive towards both goals and to live better/more comfortable/positive lives. We want all our iron warriors to eventually take control of their own rehabilitation, nutrition, fitness, health & eventually take control of their own lives again! We just really, really want to help...ONLY IF THE CLIENT WANTS TO WORK HARD! We are always looking for sponsors to pay for clients gym memberships. Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Nick Chisholm.
