Last month we held our 2025 Showcase, our fifth season.
At the start of our siva block we shared the story and history of 'Le Mau a P**e' which then led to 'The Mau Movement'. Our penina were able to connect the purpose behind Samoa's mau movement to their identity as teine and tama'ita'i Samoa growing up in the diaspora. Learning about the Mau emphasised to all our girls the importance of holding fast to their fa'asinomaga here in Dunedin. The immense pride they have about who they are as teine and tama'ita'i Samoa has been so poignant that they are writing about this story in school to celebrate being Samoan.
Our elders in the audience became emotional watching and hearing girls as young as 2yrs proudly singing "P**e p**e p**e ae! P**e āiga i le tai, lau tupe na paū i le vai ailoga a toe maua mai!"
Fa'afetai lava to our families and community who came along to our showcase. A big fa'amalo to our Penina o le Moana parents, tutors and the komiti for your support in bringing our 2025 Showcase to life.
O la outou p**e lea.
