HEADS HELD HIGH: Green Machine’s Season Ends in Heartbreaking Semi-Final Battle ⛳️🟢
Our Handicap Pennants squad’s sensational postseason run came to an end over the weekend after a brave, hard-fought semi-final clash away to a clinical Hawkestone Golf Club side on their home track. Although the overall result did not go our way, the boys fought with tremendous pride for every single point down to the very last green.
The massive highlight of the afternoon belonged to Bobby Te Mataki, who put on an absolute matchplay clinic in the middle order. Bobby was in sublime, unplayable touch, dominating his singles match with a ruthless 6/5 victory and teaming up with junior star Jonty Ward to storm through their 4BBB match for a comprehensive 4/3 win. Jonty backed up that fourball triumph with an absolute nail-biter of a singles match, showing maturity well beyond his years as he battled all the way to the 18th green in a razor-thin 1 Down finish.
Across the rest of the card, the boys threw everything they had at a very tough home side. Aperaamo Fiu and Matt Evis put in huge shifts at the top of the sheet against formidable opposition, while Steve "Seve" Lochhead and team heartbeat Danny "Andy" O'Connell left absolute everything out on the course in their respective singles and fourball battles down the tail.
This semi-final battle officially brings a magnificent 2026 Pennants season to a close for Feilding Golf Club across all our grades. From title-winning campaigns and historic individual streaks to thrilling countback finishes and brilliant debutants stepping into the squad, it has been a year filled with incredible memories and unbelievable club spirit.
A massive thank you goes out to every player who proudly wore the Green jersey this year, along with our incredible caddies, supporters, and club sponsors who backed the teams week in, week out.
Rest up, enjoy the off-season, and we can’t wait to see everyone back for the 2027 season—bigger, stronger, and greener than ever!

DRAMA AT THE WIRE: Green Machine Punches Semi-Final Ticket in Thrilling Countback! ⛳️🟢🔥
What an absolute rollercoaster conclusion to the regular season! Our Handicap Pennants squad travelled away to "Royal Buckley" for a gruelling final-round battle that went right down to the wire. Despite falling in a tight 5.5 to 3.5 overall match result against a tough home side, the boys fought for every single half-point—and as it turned out, every single one of those points proved to be worth its weight in absolute gold!
In the 4BBB leg, the top pairing of Aperaamo Fiu and Matt Evis set the standard early with a clinical 3&1 victory. When the singles rolled around, Aperaamo backed it up with another dominant 3&1 win at the head of the card, while Luke Shannon showcased his trademark composure to grind out a clutch 2 UP victory. Down the tail, Danny O’Connell fought tooth and nail to secure a crucial half-point in a hard-fought tie, keeping Feilding's playoff hopes alive by the barest of margins.
When the dust settled across the entire competition, Feilding and Foxton found themselves deadlocked on both contest points (3) and total match wins (27). That triggered an agonising tiebreaker process to decide who would claim the final playoff spot. First, it went to the total wins produced by each team's number ones—with both clubs deadlocked at 4 wins apiece. It then came down to the number twos on the team sheets... and thanks to our top-order firepower throughout the season, Feilding edged out Foxton 4 to 3 to officially punch our ticket into the Semi-Finals!
Now, the stage is set for an epic postseason showdown as the Green Machine marches away to Hawkestone to take on Hawkestone Golf Club on their home turf!
We have named an absolute blockbuster six-man roster primed for semi-final battle. Leading the charge at number one is long-drive king Aperaamo Fiu, pairing up at the top with master tactician Matt Evis at number two. Returning to the side in the number three seat is matchplay stalwart Bobby Te Mataki, while junior sensation Jonty Ward slots into number four. Anchoring the tail is the short-game maestro Steve "Seve" Lochhead at five and the heart and soul of the squad, Danny "Andy" O'Connell, closing out the card at six.
Massive congratulations to the team on securing a playoff berth. Let's get right behind the boys this Sunday as they look to silence the Hawkestone faithful and push through to the Grand Final!
