Our social media manager (me, it’s me 🐉) is a bit behind but I just HAD to share this. During the longest, hardest mid winter month of July (yes that’s how behind I am 🙈) look how many of our epic crew got 100% attendance. This shows both the dedication of our skaters AND just how much we love showing up because our team feels like home. Well done crew! And sorry Coach Kellateral for being so expensive on the chocolate budget 🍫

A few weekends back we jetsetted off to Palmerston North and met up with our epic mates at Swamp City Roller Derby. Always an incredible time hanging out (on track and off) with our Swampie besties. Thanks for having us! 📸Pieter Jansen... we love your work! 📸

❌Roller derby isn’t just about pushing and shoving.

⬆️ Roller derby is picking each other up.
🤪 It’s about laughing and dancing together at the jam line.
🫸🫷It’s the high fives across teams as the whistle blows.
🥳 It’s holding that opposing jammer as long as you can, and then cheering when they make it through your wall.
💪 It’s the quiet “just keep going” from the opposing blocker as you’re ready to give up.
🫶 It’s the “we’re so stoked you’re here”.
🙏 It’s the “thanks for inviting us”.
🥹 It’s the “we are so proud of you”.

It’s community.
It’s family.
It’s love
…with a little pushing and shoving, too.

A huge thanks to Remutaka Roller Derby for hosting an epic TRIPLE HEADER. What a feat to pull off. To Dead End Derby Christchurch for a great game. Props to Kim Wheeler photography (game against Remutaka) and MyShots JDB (game against DED) for catching so many incredible moments. And thank you to our teamies, those who hail from the mighty Bridge City and those who join us on the track as allys and friends…that we now call family.

What. A. DAY!

This is an epic video of our recent Graduation Game. It’s a BIT slower paced so you can maybe even get your head around how the game works a little bit. Keep your eye on the helmet with the star. They are scoring points when they pass opposing team players. Everyone else is… trying to stop that happening. Add wheels, go round and round, laugh lots… and that’s basically derby! We are SO proud of all of the rookies throughout our community, this was an amazing (and not overly slow/gentle/easy!) first game for loads of them! Eeeee the derby world is getting SO EXCITING!

🥇 SKATER OF THE MOOOONTH! 🏆

This person has shown dedication to all things derby, progressing massively in their skills, stepping into leadership positions, never missing a beat when it comes to game play and even putting themselves out there to travel to games and join teams when they are going solo - they are friendly and welcoming and are always keen to help and be involved. For only having graduated at the end of last year you would never know they were still pretty fresh to all this - skater of the month goes to our curse word lover on the track… 🌪️ HURRICANE 🌀
