Waikato Canoe Slalom (inc.

(est. 2021)), is a community-based club in Waikato New Zealand focusing on promoting, supporting, and facilitating the competetive sport of canoe slalom, along with kayaking, and white water sports for all ages and skill levels.

The Matamata Intermediate School Canoe Slalom team hit the beach today for the final day at the Zespri Aims games to compete in Sprint Kayaking.
The sun shone and so did our wee stars 🌟

Team again found medal success with the following results.

🥉 Aims Year 7 boys kayak sprint team of Fletcher Clerk, David DeJong, and Max Holmes

🥈 Aims Girls year eight Kayak Sprint team of Sophie Wightman, Tessa Robinson and Lisa Martin.

🥉 kayak sprint Composite Team which had Corby Gifkin and Issac represent.

That rounds up this years Kayaking action. We wish all the other sports a great week ahead representing your schools.

🥝 Today our Club was represented by our paddlers that go to Matamata Intermediate School who participated in the Annual Aims Game event.

🌧️ The weather was wet but the enthusiasm and the positive vibes were our sunshine today.
💯 The kids rose to the occasion and put there all into there racing. We as a club were super proud of them all.
🌟 Outstanding results for our team we came away with the following medals.

🥇 Max Holmes Yr 7 Men Champion

🥉 Yr 8 Mens team Aidan LeValliant, Corby Gifkin and Declan Kyle.

🥉 Yr 8 Womens team Lisa Martin, Tessa Weightman, Sophia Robinson.

🥈 Matamata Intermediate in ‘Overall School Champion’

🏅Aidan LeValliant was chosen by his peers and the Managers of the Team to be the recipient of the Sportsmanship medal.

Mention to David DeJong who made it through to the semis and just missed out on the bronze and placed 4th.

There was a lot to be proud of today by all the paddlers, even those unlucky not to podium. The triumph is in your own progress you have all made from the beginning of this year to now to compete in this event.

🟩Shout out and an appreciation post to Matamata Subway 🌯🍪

🟩Thank you for your support to feed our volunteers here, doing the mahi to provide a successful event for our Jnr paddlers.

🟩The team are on start and finish,providing Safety, and helping kids get kitted out and into there boats, who are behind the scenes compiling results who are there first thing and last thing in the day set up and packing down. Who have spent ours in the weeks before hand taking entries setting courses and organising plans and equipment. We appreciate all the volunteers efforts!!

🤩Thanks Subway Matamata for keeping there belly’s full to so they can concentrate on the mahi. 🙌

2026 Zespri AIMS Games underway💥

Year 7 & 8’s from across the country have descended upon Tauranga for the 2026 AIMS Games.

The canoe slalom competition held on Lake McLaren is a highlight for many!

The athletes were in action today in a timetrial format. Their result today gives seeding for the head to head racing starting tomorrow.
