🛼 Guns N Roses Junior Roller Derby – Open Day 🎉

What an awesome Guns N Roses Junior Roller Derby Open Day! 🖤💗

We had a fantastic turnout, and a huge thank you to all the BCR helpers who came along to assist and teach, alongside our regular junior coaches. Having so many extra hands made a massive difference! 🙌

There was plenty to do at the start — getting everyone geared up, completing safety checks and getting skaters onto the track while others were still getting ready. Once everyone was sorted, we introduced ourselves, talked about what the day would involve, and then split into two groups:

🛼 Those who had skated before and felt confident they didn't need a refresher on the basics
🛼 Those who were new to skating or wanted to spend some time going over the basics

Both groups covered many of the same skills, but at their own pace, including:

🔹 Derby stance
🔹 Falling safely
🔹 Different ways to stop
🔹 Gliding on skates
🔹 Turning and changing direction
🔹 Weaving through cones
🔹 Weight distribution and how it affects your control
🔹 Different ways of falling safely
🔹 Building confidence and control on skates

Once we'd got the basics sorted, it was time for some games! 😁 We had relay races and other activities before splitting back into our groups to work on some slightly more advanced techniques.

And then, to finish off the afternoon, everyone got to free skate around the derby track to some music! 🎶🛼

It was fantastic to see so many new skaters giving roller derby a go, learning new skills, challenging themselves and, most importantly, having fun!

💗 Missed the Open Day?

Don't worry! If you missed out but still want to give Junior Roller Derby a try, we have another intake happening in the first week back of the new school term!

🌹🛼 Guns & Roses Open Day – What to Bring! 🛼🌹

If you’ve signed up for our Guns & Roses Open Day this Saturday, here’s a quick reminder of what you’ll need to bring with you!

👕 Suitable clothing
Skating can be hot work, so we recommend Sports shorts and a T-shirt or other comfortable sportswear. However, once you stop skating, you can cool down quickly, so it’s a good idea to also bring something warm, such as track pants and a sweatshirt/hoodie.

🧦 Suitable socks
We have skates available to borrow, but you will need to bring your own socks. Comfortable sports socks that cover your ankles are ideal.

💧 Water bottle & snacks
Bring a water bottle and some snacks to keep your energy up. We have filtered water available on site, but we don’t have cups or bottles available, so please bring your own bottle.

🛼 Your own gear? Bring it along!
If you already have your own skating or protective gear, feel free to bring it with you. If you don’t have any gear, don’t worry — we have gear available to borrow for the Open Day. We’ll get you geared up and help you get started!

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday and introducing you to roller skating and Junior Roller Derby! 🌹🖤💗

If you’ve signed up, we’ll see you there! 🛼🔥

🏁 GnR Wednesday Night Training! 🏁

That’s a wrap on our last training session of the term! 🎉🛼

Tonight we had Kay.Os, Tower & Fraser coaching, with the group split into Level 1 & 2 and Level 3 skaters.

🛼 Level 1s & 2s worked with Fraser on the fundamentals — stance, balance and stopping — along with some fun games, including the ever-popular Tag Game!

🔥 Level 2s & 3s got stuck into scrimmage-style practice, working on techniques to stop that jammer! Some of our Level 2s also joined the Level 3s for a bit to help push their skills and progression.

And our Level 3s definitely finished the term going hard out, putting those skills to the test! 💪🔥

A big thanks to our coaches and skaters for another great term of training! ❤️🖤
