Napier Pirate Rugby & Sports Club is one of the oldest & longest established sports clubs in NZ & is So come along, old and new! Once a Pirate, always a Pirate.

Napier Pirates Rugby and Sports Club was founded in 1886, making us the oldest continuous Rugby Club in the Bay. Pirates is a proud whānau focused club with rugby teams in all grades - from 5th grade to Premier. The Napier Pirate Junior Rugby Club has a strong presence in Hawkes Bay and the true nature of our club shines through on those chilly Saturday mornings. You’ll find senior and past players and their families cheering on, coaching and refereeing their tamariki - many of who will play all the way through to Premiers. We also have numerous netball teams for the wāhine who play alongside the rugby boys in the winter and a cricket team for the warmer months too.

2022 is a special season for Pirates Rugby as we have welcomed a Hawkes Bay Rugby great, Mutu Ngarimu, to build our Premier side and lead them to that Maddison trophy, last held in 2015. Watch this space, 2023 is already looking like an exciting season to be apart of, join us now and be part of our journey. We welcome you all to join our family - to play, to support, to encourage and to celebrate with us as we continue to build our proud club.

Ka piki te ora, ka piki te kaha, ka piki te mana.
Ka hinga te tangata, ka mau tonu te wairua!

It is with profound sadness that we share the incredibly sad news of the passing of our brother, Ali Peteli 🕊️

Words simply cannot express the heartbreak of losing someone so young, so full of life, and so deeply loved.

To Ali’s whānau Tracey, Lima, Sone, Maree, Amber and loved ones, we send our deepest aroha, love and strength during this incredibly difficult time.

Your journey here may have come to an end, but your memory will never fade. You will forever remain in the hearts of your whānau, your friends, your teammates and our club but also everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with you.

Fa’afetai tele lava, Ali, mo taimi uma ma mea lelei na e fa’asoa mai.
Ia manuia lau malaga. Ia e malolo filemu.

E mihi nui ana ki e Ali, mō ngā wā katoa me ngā mea pai i kōrerotia, i tohaina e koe. Kia manuia tō haerenga. Moe mai rā i runga i te rangimārie.

Haere rā i runga i te rangimārie me te kotahitanga, moe mai rā i te aroha.

Alu ia ma le filemu ma le lotogatasi, malolo i le alofa.

Go now in peace and unity, rest in love 🤍

Haere, haere, haere atu rā e te rangatira. Moe mai rā, Alan “Rowdy” Rowden 🕊️

This week, our flag sits at half mast as our Pirates whānau farewells one of our own.

Alan was more than a Life Member of our club having been inducted in 2022. Rowdy managed our Premier side in the 1980’s, had a huge involvement in securing our first team/club sponsorship, as well as being a devoted member to the committee. His dedication, loyalty, and countless years of service helped shape the club we proudly call home today.

Through the good times and the tough ones, Rowdy stood by the black and white. His legacy will live on in every player who pulls on the skull and crossbones, every volunteer who gives their time, and every member who walks through our clubrooms.

To Rowdys whānau and loved ones, please know your Pirates whānau stands beside you.
Kei a koutou katoa ō mātou aroha me ō mātou whakaaro i tēnei wā o te pōuri.

Thank you Alan for everything you gave to our club and our community. May you rest in love.

Moe mai rā. Haere atu rā. Ka maumahara tonu mātou ki a koe 🕊️

Tangihanga details as follows.

Rowdy currently lies at 287 Taradale Road
A church service will be held tonight at 7:00pm, everyone is welcome.
Final service will be at 10:30am tomorrow at Dunstalls Funeral Services - 19 Edwardes Street, Napier.
Following the service, Alan will be taken for private cremation.
The whānau however warmly invite everyone to stay at Dunstalls for hākari at the closing of the service.
