4 weeks ago today I was told I was lucky to be alive after a freak accident on the cross country at the 3DE. A pretty sobering thought but the risk we take living life. But thanks to my air vest and ARRO Helmets here we are 4 weeks later!

I’m up walking (apparently looking like a baby giraffe 😂) on crutches. Trying to put a positive spin on things and make the most of spending time with the people that mean so much to me. ❤️

I have been so overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of support and it’s made such a difference to keeping me distracted and helping me make so much progress. It’s a scary thing to happen but I’ve got this thanks to the amazing people in my life! 💪🏽

2 more weeks and I’ll hopefully be able to progress to a bit of rehab work (still a few months off being back on the horse) but now is just a time to rest.

MAY MADNESS… literally.

What a wild month with so much going on and probably the most rogue collection of photos in a monthly wrap up to date, so buckle in and enjoy! 🚙

Starting with an awesome show at WEC HT with King Ed taking out his 3rd consecutive win 🥇 and Radar placing 5th in the 105 with so much to be proud of! Topping it off with a visit from the amazing Alice and Morgan from Precision Saddle Fit NZ making sure all my stunning Silver Fern Saddle Co. were fitting correctly!

I then got older 🎂 treated to a visit from my favourite Hawkes Bay residents Taz and Tom and an outing to my favourite restaurant to celebrate!

Cazza joined me on more forest rides than I can count getting the horses prepped and fit for the 3DE and Dad declared Radar (who he calls Razor to match his wild forelock) his new favourite horse! 🤪

The 3DE started so well. I managed to hang on to Radar (disguised as a kite) in the trot up which was the first win! 🕺🏽 All 3 boys did amazing dressage tests for where they are at and I really couldn’t have asked for much more!!
Radars XC was quite possibly the most fun thing ever. I couldn’t stop smiling and even now that’s what’s keeping me going to get back into the game. 🩷
Jethro had the world’s most unfortunate lead up to the 3DE and I wasn’t able to get all the boxes ticked I know he needs to perform. Great to get him there and a very professional first 1/2 of the XC making it feel so easy before I elected to save him for another day. He’s got big things waiting for him.

Fast forward to ending the day in ICU 🤯 thank god for air vests, ARRO Helmets and amazing people in my life who were there when I needed them most!

Shout out to Lotte (utter legend 🥹), Sue-Ellen, Katie and Sophie for getting the horses sorted and back to my place safe and well! I’m sure there are a million people that pitched in that I don’t know about so thank you all!

It’s been a rough road and the pain is decent when it decides to rear its head but two weeks on I’m proud of the progress and so grateful for everyone around me who has been so patient. I’ve included some ICU photos just to show how far we have come 🤕😵‍💫

The lovely Nugget luckily sold to the most perfect home right before my accident and mum kindly delivered him to his new home 🏡

I’m home and enjoying some seriously good home cooked meals 🤤 and great company! Good to see the ponies all happy out on an extended holiday!

Looking forward to the next few weeks meeting with my amazing physio Hannah Movement&co., more X-rays, specialist appointments and a whole lot of sleeping 🧠!

I can’t tell you how good it feels to be HOME and see my main man (pjs and all!) 😭❤️

I can’t thank my amazing friends and family enough for their support. The eventing family truely is something special! Visitors, thoughtful gifts and amazing messages really kept me smiling, so thankyou!

The nurses in the ICU and the Orthopaedic Ward at Rotorua Hospital went above and beyond and made 11 days in hospital feel more bearable! What an incredible job they do.

I can’t help but think just how unlucky this was but how lucky I am too. I feel very torn on the situation. It’s going to be a tough few months ahead (those who know me well know sitting still isn’t my forte) but I’m hoping bigger things to come if I’m patient. ❤️‍🩹

UPDATE - I’m out of ICU!

Thankyou to everyone for the messages, thoughtful gifts and visits ❤️‍🩹 to save me repeating myself too much I have 3 pelvic fractures but honestly I’m bloody lucky to be alive - invest in good safety gear team 😉 The horse is well in himself and what a legend he is. A total freak accident and all I want to do is get home to cuddle all my amazing horses!

I took my first steps today (before nearly passing out) but that’s a minor detail 🤪 and got moved to a room with a great view! Yay!

Sorry to those I haven’t replied to yet it really is a one message in between napping all day kind of situation!

Very grateful for the kind words. So many people have asked what they can do and honestly not much right now but in a month or 2 I’m going to need every bit of moral support possible so stick with me!!

After taking a pretty serious tumble on Saturday afternoon XC at the 3DE it’s so hard to put much into words… 😭

Thankyou so much to everyone who has helped in any way - sorting horses, my gear, those first on scene and messaging me or mum to check in.

The ambulance and ICU crews have gone above and beyond to look after me. It’s not been much fun but trying to keep in good spirits knowing the horses are all okay and well looked after. I have the most amazing people around me and the next few weeks will be filled with many thankyou’s.

Thanks to Amy for planning an ICU escape to to enable me to finish my 3DE on Radar 😂 unfortunately not meant to be for us this time but I know he would have given everything to jump in the ring yesterday 🐙

I’ve got a lot of sorting to do with business and schoolers etc! I’m not quite up to being my own full time admin person again quite yet so please bear with as I get around to messaging everyone. If I haven’t replied to messages yet please know I’ve seen them and I’m so grateful for all the kind words. ❤️

Going to be a slow recovery but those horses of mine have seriously bright futures and I’m determined to be out there with them again soon! We all know this sport is dangerous and freak things do happen! I’m counting my lucky stars I had some serious safety kit on 🫡

DRESSAGE DAY @ TAUPO

The boys all put in amazing performances on the flat yesterday for where they’re at. I couldn’t even pick a highlight!

Unfortunately all their scores not quite reflecting the growth and quality but it was carried through the classes. Jethro getting 8’s for his canter work does make me particularly proud. Radar showed some real excellence and in my eyes Ed did a winning test 🥹

Lots to do on course today but ultimately the goal is great education and happy horses to end the season. Looking forward to getting into it 🤎

Post cards from Day 1 at Taupo 3DE 📩❤️

Jethro and Radar passed their trot ups, I didn’t trip over while trying to keep up with Radar so we will call that a win for day 1 🥇

So looking forward to the next 3 days. I had a quick bike round the 2*L track tonight and it’s looking amazing. Can’t wait to get into it.

As we head into 3DE week it becomes more evident than ever just how amazing the team around me is! 🥺

A call from Megan from Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Taupo today just to check in around plans for the weekend and to make sure the horses have everything they need. Means the world! 👩🏼‍⚕️

Best farrier Red rose farrier services looking after the boys to the highest standard and standing around today making a plan for if I was to need anything over the weekend. 🔨

Alice and Morgan from Precision Saddle Fit NZ came to see us at WEC last weekend to check all the saddles. Alice has even sent me her personal saddle to use on Radar as he has chunked up so much he needed a change. She’s now ba****ck herself - that’s serious kindness and dedication to the horses!! 🥹

A big box of Ecohorse arrived with all the essentials to ensure the team are looking world class! 🔥

Katie Bird Equine Sports Therapies has played a huge part this season especially helping to develop Jethro’s strength and performance. So lucky to have her on hand this weekend too 🩷

Heading into the weekend with the very best team of horses. What will be will be, the hard work has been done, but I’m just so grateful for the support. Means the world to me.
