Another day on the water with the boys nato and Milan. Cuvier trip in dream conditions. Water was way to clean for anything major but we all nailed some beauty snapper in the shallows and I grabbed a couple crays and sorted dinner whangapoua styles. Line coconut and tomyum fish soup with crayfish morne and a simple side of bluefin tuna sushi. Be sure to check out the next episode’s when they hit YouTube.
Just an edit. I fish a lot and fished all over. But for the past few days I have tried to ask as many questions as possible with out being annoying. Or trying not to get in the way. Watching no bait or burly just soft baits cast into less then a meter of water a meter from the shore line then hooking and pulling big snapper one after another was awesome. Then actually picking it up and doing it yourself is really cool.

I’ve been mates with the boys for the best part of 13 years and have given them stick like mates do. However when it comes to fishing and shallows and monster snapper and kings they are pretty bloody good. Stoked and privileged to get out . One more session in the morning

So finally End game put a Bluefin tuna on the deck. Megan Brown doing the damage this time on the jigs. So we left poua and had to do a quick fuel top up in whitianga and picked our mate Gene Bryant for the trip then headed south east, sign started out behind mare and White Island, we jigged the first big bait ball for a while and no luck and not really many arches showing with it, so then carried on, late into the evening we stopped on another ball and Megan got herself onto the fish. Bit of scrap for her but she managed to land the fish. Gene and I threw the jigs at them for a while but no takers for us. Apparently tuna don’t like people who can actually jig lol. So we continued down to Waihau quick little jig again then into the bay as I needed sleep at 1am. Then back into it at 4am right down to east where we could see the hicks bay. Then trolled until 2pm with a 120nm run home, got in last night after a pitch black end to the run after dropping Gene off and no snail trail we had to carefully go through the islands and reefs then the big one taking on the whangapoua bar in the blackness. So just hold on and use what knowledge and experience of it we had and made it across. Shattered after driving 6 hours at full concentration and fuel calculating but all done and dusted. Love these missions with Megan even though it’s a big clean up and the body doesn’t bounce back like it used to. And side note I didn’t get sick so that’s a win lol. So until next time
