Extra Divers Qantab Extra Divers Qantab is located within the Jumeriah Muscat bay hotel. Along the long coast of Oman, there are lots of spectacular and unspoiled dive spots.

The close island Fahal provides about 10 sensational spots. One of the main attractions is a channel, connecting two bays, home of a large variety of reef fishes, beautiful coral garden, several kinds of rays, turtles and with a little luck sharks. Also the 84 metre long wreck of Munassir is close to the dive center, offering a spectacular diving.

Tip 2:
This rule applies to all animals, never block their exit, this will prevent any harm being done to you. Always approach from the side and not face on, directly. This will prevent stress for the animal and it won’t run away, you will be able to get close for that great shot, not chase it away for the other divers and most importantly not disturb the animal. We are guest in their home and we should treat them with the respect they deserve. We look, we capture the perfect shot but we never touch, chase or disturb them. Approaching from the side you can see how close we can get without it flying off.

The network pipefish, family of the seahorse.
A tiny underwater vacuum cleaner
It has a long, tube-shaped snout that sucks up tiny crustaceans and other little creatures. It feeds by quickly sucking prey into its mouth! Dad takes care of the babies! 🥚
The female transfers her eggs to the male, who carries them in a specialised area on his belly or tail until they hatch. Pipefish dads do the pregnancy work!

Don’t make them puff up for a photo. Inflation is a stressful defence response that costs energy.
Look, don’t touch. Their spines can injure you, and handling can harm the fish.
They aren’t the same as pufferfish, although they are close relatives in the broader pufferfish group. Porcupinefish generally have more obvious external spines.
Their swimming style can look a little awkward, but they use their fins to manoeuvre around reefs.
Fun question?: If a porcupinefish inflates to protect itself, what should a responsible diver do?
Answer: Give it space, stay calm, and observe without touching or chasing it.

With cooler temperatures comes the green algae. It may not be great for visibility and photos but this is what keeps Oman’s waters smothered with fish and gorgeous corals! This is a bad visibility day… look at all the fish 🐠

WHY WOULD A DIVER GET LOST?

It can happen for many reasons — currents, weather, technical problems, emergencies or simply surfacing far from the boat or shore.

Understanding how and why it happens can help divers prepare for it.

Razor fish! These upside down swimmers move in synchronised groups, a school of razorfish will tilt and turn together in perfect synchronization. If they are not swimming you will find them hiding in sea urchins. There is only 1 place we have found them in Oman!
