Most people slow down in their 60s. Madonna Buder went the other way. She didn’t enter her first triathlon until age 52. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a lifelong pursuit.
At 75, she completed her first Ironman. Then she kept going. At 82, she became the oldest woman ever to finish an Ironman, earning the nickname “The Iron Nun.” A Roman Catholic sister with calm focus and relentless consistency, she lined up again and again.
Over more than 45 years of racing, Buder completed 45+ Ironman triathlons. No shortcuts. Swim, bike, marathon—every time. Her story traveled far beyond finish lines, inspiring runners and triathletes around the world.
Today, at 95, Madonna Buder is still running. Still active. 😯🏃
