ONE PERSON CAN MAKE OR BREAK A TEAM.

A little reminder for every athlete and coach: be careful who you allow into your team and your circle.

Not everyone who joins brings a positive influence.

Team Lakay takes home three gold medals!🥇🥇🥇

I want to sincerely thank Jail Chief Inspector Atty. Dexter B. Ngipol, Warden of Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory, and Force Able – Cordillera Jail Jitsu, for initiating and making this first-ever Cordilleran Jail Jitsu Competition happen.

Special thanks to our Team Lakay Founder and Head Coach, Coach Mark Sangiao, and to all our coaches, athletes, media team, and staff. Thank you, everyone. ❤️

To all the event organizers, led by Jail Officer Arvin Luma-ang Jose, as well as the technical officials, staff, and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you for your time, effort, and dedication. We know how tiring and exhausting it is to organize an event like this, but we still truly appreciate all your hard work.

Much respect to our competitors, Hideshiko Nozawa McLean Tudayan, and Nhel Justine Anioay of La Trinidad Jiu-Jitsu. 🙏

For the main event against Hideshiko Nozawa, he was supposed to compete against Afonso “Cego” Celso from Luta Livre, Brazil, but unfortunately, Cego walked out. So I decided to step up and accept the challenge as a late replacement.

We went into overtime, where we took turns starting from the back, with each of us having the opportunity to escape or finish the submission. During his turn, when he had my back, I was able to secure a cross-feet ankle lock submission. In the end, I managed to edge out the win.

For my second match against McLean Tudayan, after a good scramble with him, I’m grateful that I still had the strength to secure the win by points.

It was definitely a good challenge, and I’m grateful that I was able to manage both matches and, by God’s grace, come away with two gold medals.
🥇🥇

Congratulations as well to one of our Team Lakay athletes, Chad Mayos, who also managed to win gold against Nhel Justine Anioay.

Their match also went into overtime, where both athletes had their turn. During Chad’s turn, he secured the submission via rear-naked choke. During Nhel’s turn, Chad escaped Nhel’s back take and armbar attempt, securing the win. 🥇

Grateful for the opportunity and the experience. 🙏
Thank you, and congratulations to everyone who competed!
