A hairy shrimp (Phycocaris simulans) with plenty of pink fuzz to look through. Find the dark eye, then follow the fine strands around its body. Would you have spotted this one?

A Cyerce species sea slug you can almost see through. Look closely at those leaf-like shapes and tiny yellow flecks around the edges. One for the divers who enjoy slowing down for the small stuff.

A pygmy seahorse tucked among the branches of a sea fan. Look for the little snout and the pink bumps on its pale body, then follow its shape through the branches. Even with Dang’s photo in front of you, it’s worth a second look.

A blenny peeking from a hole in the coral, with just its face on show. Many blennies shelter in small reef holes and crevices. Dang’s photo is a good reminder to look carefully at those little openings on a dive. Sometimes there’s a face looking back.

A painted frogfish, pink phase, with a face worth a second look. Pink-orange skin, dark spots and little frills everywhere. Frogfish can clamber along the seabed using their limb-like fins. Dang has given us a close look at this one beside the reef. Would you have spotted it?

A Robust pipefish in yellow, surrounded by orange sponges. Its long, tube-like snout is used to draw in tiny prey. There’s plenty to look at in Dang’s photo, from the delicate fins to the little flecks across its body. One for the divers who love taking a closer look.

Look along the edge of the whip coral and you’ll find a whip-coral shrimp (Pontonides sp.). Several shrimp species in this genus make their homes on whip corals. This one’s cream and brown bands are a close match for its surroundings. How quickly did you spot it?
