In this edition of NSmen Share, four NSmen look back on the training and experiences that made an impression on them. For some, it is the challenge of clearing an obstacle course while running on empty. For others, it is the discipline of shooting, the satisfaction of improving their fitness or simply the curiosity of experiencing the combat-style training they never had during their NS days.

That sense of nostalgia is also what makes the SAFRA FitX Challenge particularly intriguing. Bringing together strength, endurance, agility and mental resilience with familiar NS-inspired movements, FitX Challenge offers these NSmen a chance to revisit the physical challenges they remember – and, in some cases, take on the ones they never got to experience. From the Low Wall and Apex Climb to laser shooting, the challenge is less about recreating NS and more about seeing how the lessons, fitness and fighting spirit built during those years translate today.

This weekend, families came together not just for a day of fun, but for a chance to experience the teamwork, resilience and determination that generations of Singapore's servicemen and women have embodied in service to the nation.

Behind every obstacle conquered was a parent offering encouragement, a child finding confidence, and families creating memories side by side. Together, they discovered that the values which strengthen our nation's defenders are the same values that strengthen our homes and communities.

Because strong families build strong communities, and strong communities help build a stronger Singapore.

Across the course, parents became coaches, teammates and cheerleaders as they guided their children through leopard crawls, wall climbs and marksmanship challenges.

For some, the obstacles brought back memories of NS. For others, it was their first taste of the action. But one thing was clear: mums and dads were right there beside their children, sharing lessons in courage, resilience and determination every step of the way.

Because the best skills aren't just taught. They're passed on. 💪🇸🇬

❤️ Parenting is often a race against time.

Between nursery pick-ups, homework, exams and the many milestones ahead, quality family moments can be hard to come by.

That made today's Parent & Child race even more special. Parents and children tackled every challenge together, proving that some of life's most important victories are simply spending time side by side.

For anyone who has gone through National Service, certain words need little explanation: Low Wall. Leopard Crawl. 2.4km run.

The FitX Challenge brought these familiar elements together with functional fitness stations, creating a course that was challenging without requiring participants to be current servicemen. Adult participants faced the 2m Apex Climb, Low Wall, 20m Leopard Crawl, 50kg Tyre Flip, Box Jump, Laser Shooting, 1km Rower and a run of up to 2.4km.

Minister of State for Defence and President of SAFRA Desmond Choo, who attended the first day of the festival and flagged off the Trio category, said that was precisely what the FitX Challenge experience was intended to bring out.

“The inaugural FitX Challenge gives NSmen an opportunity to take part in purposeful challenges inspired by National Service with their families and friends. Each of the challenges draws upon exercises from the military,” says Mr Choo.
