On another hot sunny day, Hawks won the toss and chose to bat first. Alok got the Hawks off to a sizzling start with 33 from 19 balls. Vintage Lohith came in at no 3 and changed the course of the game with an aggressive 55 from 32 balls, with 4 sixes and five fours. And when Vintage Lohith bats the way he bats, there is no stopping Hawks. Welcome back Lohtih!! Hawks managed to end the innings with 270 on the board led by some solid middle order batting by Hardik (46 runs), Sakcham (35 runs) and Nirmal (17 runs).

Hawks defended the total successfully with some attacking bowling, getting the opposition out for 117. Shreyas led the bowling attacked with 4 wickets, followed by Hardik 2 wickets and 1 wicket each for Alpin, Lohith, Udit and Shashank. Shreyas was just simply unplayable and bowled with some venom, well bowlers Shreyas.

Hawks managed to win the game with 10 straight points. Well played Hawks!!

The road to success is never a smooth one, but what is important is to take all results in our stride as we move forward! It was a match-up to remember in the IA Challenge Cup, with Hawks facing Blue Lions, our brother team from the same family. Bowling first, the Indian Association ground played host to a bowling performance of a lifetime from Shashank. His match figures of 6-29 was a testament to a key tenet of top class fast bowling; attacking the stumps with consistency and aggression. Despite a strong batting line-up of Blue Lions (including our own coach Prem 😊), Shashank sent them packing quickly, leaving them in a disarray. Well supported by tight bowling by the spinners and our rapidly improving fielding, the Blue Lions could only muster a total of 156.

The second innings started very soundly for the Hawks, with the top order building a steady foundation for the rest of the innings. However, a string of quick wickets meant a climbing asking rate and new batters coming to the crease often. Through it all, our opener Vishal showed great application and discipline in his batting. In uncomfortably humid conditions, and without any boundaries in his innings, he scored a memorable half-century and kept Hawks in the game. Alas, the scoreboard pressure proved insurmountable. But at the end, an amazing game of cricket and congratulations to Blue Lions for the win!

Despite the result, there were many positives to take away from this game, and they only make us stronger for the matches to come.

Champion innings Vinayak Sankolli!!

Once again, Hawks CC continues to prove that with teamwork and positive reinforcement, good success comes knocking on the door. On a sunny Saturday morning, Hawks decided to shake things up and bat first, hoping to take advantage of the good weather. However, the loss of both openers in the first five overs put the team in a bit of a sticky situation. In came Vinayak, who shepherded the innings with calculated aggression. Despite facing his own battle with sickness and fatigue, he displayed an indomitable fighting spirit in his innings of 71. Ably supported by Sakcham, Pradeep and Hardik, Hawks ended up with a fighting total of 166, and came back hungry and ready to defend the total in the second innings.

Hawks got off to an excellent start, with three tight overs to begin with, including a wicket for Pradeep despite sustaining an injury. What followed was a bowling masterclass from the in-form Vishal and the birthday boy Dhananjay. The opposition simply did not have an answer to the swing and guile of Dhananjay, and the consistent line and length of Vishal, leaving the Hawks on top going into the mid-innings drinks break. Following the break, the bowlers quickly sealed the game aided by some safe catching and clinical bowling at the death by Nirmal and Hardik. Once again, Vishal was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets to his name.

All in all, an emphatic victory for the Hawks, and a joyous post-match occasion too with the celebration of Dhananjay's birthday! We go again this weekend in the IA Challenge Cup against the IA Kings, so stay tuned!

Splendid bowling spell!!

Photos from Hawks Cricket Club's post 29/06/2023

Another team effort, resulting in a convincing win!!

Losing the toss and put in to field first on a hot sunny day, Hawks got off to a solid start with a tight opening spell from Alpin and Thejas, putting a leash on the opposition. We could have gotten the opposition down 3-4 wickets if we could taken our chances. But the match turned a bit in the next 2 overs where we gave away 33 runs taking 1 wicket. The pressure was off and the batsman at the crease were looking threatening. But then came some tight bowling from the bowlers restricting the opposition to 140 all out. Bowlers showed some solid grit and the fielders supported them whole heartedly. Nirmal led from the front with 4 wickets followed by Vishal and Alok with 3 wickets each. It would not be complete if I didn’t mention the stunning diving catch from Jonty Rhodes, aka Vishal Doshi. An absolute blinder!!

We batted with some authority, with free flowing shots from almost all the batters. Alok and Dhiraj took Hawks to a quick start and with some glorious shots. Dhiraj for out to another stunner of the match (hard luck buddy), what a catch indeed!! Shashank and Vinayak stitched together a winning partnership to finish the game in style. We ended up with 8-6s and 6-4s to complete the chase successfully in 24.4 overs. And a great comeback innings by Shashank scoring an unbeaten half century. Shashank, we’ve been waiting for a long time. But now that you have one, I am sure there will be plenty to follow. Kya kare, ek se ji nahi bharta ❤️❤️

Today was a day of 2 new bowlers making their mark (Vishal and Alok, take a bow!), long coming resurgence of a batsman (Shashank P, was just a matter of time) and debut of a new wicket keeper (Shashank M, welcome to Hawks).

You win some and you lose some!! But when you fight like a warrior, there is no shame in losing. At worst, it’s a learning opportunity and it only makes you better.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Hawks managed a modest total of 114 all out on a turner. Nirmal and Hriday put up a good show with some aggressive batting getting 31 and 30 respectively after Vishal saw off the new swinging ball with 20 from 28 balls.

The bowlers put up a impressive show with early wickets from Alpin and Shreyas. Shreyas and Shashank bowled with some grit determination, testing the batsman with each and every delivery, take 3 wickets each. Hawks managed to get 7 wickets while defending this modest total and with few close calls from umpires going their way, they could have successfully defended the total on another day. But Hawks walked back learning so much about playing on these kind of pitches. They can only get better from here.

Shashank Patwal.. way to go

Photos from Hawks Cricket Club's post 19/06/2023

Another win and this time a convincing one!!

Losing the toss, on a wet day with a very wet pitch and puddles all around, Hawks Cricket Club was asked to bowl first. Alpin V. Mehta took the team to a great start with 2 early wickets followed by a match-winning partnership between Thejas and Shashank Patwal reduced Cracking Willows to 103 all out. The feature of the match was the near perfect fielding, with hardly any chances going down. A master class run-out from Manoj Yadav was the best of all.

Alok led the chase with some controlled agression to get 44 from 31 balls to ensure Cracking Willows were never in the game. Dhiraj and Shashank made notable contributions of 18 and 21 respectively to finish a convincing win for Hawks Cricket Club Singapore.

Special thanks to Dhananjay for playing the game last minute inspite of injuries. Thank you DG!

PS: Thank you Shreyas for the wonderful artworks. And thanks to CricKingdom Singapore, our training partners and Chetan Suryawanshi and Prem Ahire, our coaches for training the team for such wins.
