What’s a season off?- MVHS cross country team…
Instead of lying around until summer, our team is hard at work competing for the distance team for indoor AND outdoor track. Right now, it is indoor track❄️🥶⛄️( still practice outside, but meets are indoors and workouts are on the track)
Today, was the first meet of the season and the team did not disappoint!
To start: Some teammates, INCLUDING our very own Rachel Vann, were given the opportunity to race at Virginia Beach in the BEAST Invitational. Rachel raced very well today! She took 1st place in the 3200 with a time of 11:49-16 laps around a 200m track- AND took 4th with a time of 5:40 in the 1600🥇
-Back in Arlington, most of the team raced at the first district meet!
Overall, girls took 2nd and the guys took 1st!
Some notable showings:
- 🥇Christian Deal took 1st overall in the 500 with a time of 1:18
-🥈 Lacey Lussier took a VERY close 2nd with SPEEDY time of 3:33 in the 1000, running neck and neck with 1st to the very end
-🥇🥈BACK TO BACK Majors: Oliver Raak took 1st place in the 1000 with a time of 2:54 AND right behind him was Yohanes Aparicio took 2nd with a time of 3:07
-🥇🥈Matthew Brown took 1st in the 3200 with a time of 11:04 and Matthew Britton took 2nd with a time of 12:55
-🥈🥉BOTH of Mount Vernon’s girls 4x400 teams took 2nd and 3rd with times of 4:56 and 5:39
-🥇🥈BOTH of Mount Vernon’s boys 4x400 teams took 1st and 2nd with times of 4:07 and 4:23
-Some MASSIVE PRs in the 1600, 1000, 500, and the 400!
A SUPER optimistic start to a great season!! It’s going to be great!

What a great way to end the cross country season! Both the boys and the girls team got to run at the Occuquan Regionals Championships on October 29th in a very fast race with nationally ranked schools! Lots of fierce competition. Nevertheless, everyone gave it their all, had some major breakthroughs, and pr’d! There is lots of optimism going into Indoor Track and next season with all of the new talent and effort! Overall, a very XCiting race! 🏃🏃♀️💨👟👟⛰️

What an action packed week! We started off with the JV Championship of the World on the 21st. With fields of 160+ runners in both the girls and guys races, the “grey” squad ran in pretty great and packed races! The next day, was Varsity Districts. The girls and guys races were both very competitive. The girls placed 6th and the guys placed 5th which means both move on to Regionals at Burke Lake on the 29th!! Way to go! Some very notable performances include our All-District Athletes. In their races, Rachel Vann got 3rd and medaled with a time of 19:09.10, Lacey Lussier took 12th with a time of 20:15.80 (50 second PR!!!!), and Matthew Brown took 10th with a time of 16:45.30!!! Many, also PR’d and get another chance next week to run even faster!! Great job everyone!! AND good luck to everyone racing next week!! 🥳🥳🏃♂️🏃♀️🏅⛰️

Not quite all of the senior night photos but here’s some great ones! On October 8th, the night was a great success! The girls team won with a perfect score of 15, with senior Lacey Lussier winning the meet! The boys also won with a strong race from all! Thank to all of the parents and Coach Brown and Coach Niner for an amazingly fun night!!🥳🥳🎓2️⃣6️⃣🏃♂️🏃♀️⛰️

This past weekend, we had our last invitational of the season…..Octoberfest!!! On a really great and challenging course, everyone did great! A lot of people who have been recovering from injuries were able to come back and race which was really great to see!! A couple of PRs and amazing breakthroughs…..AND one of the most notable performances, our number 1 girl Rachel Vann, out of 268 runners, got 8th place with an OUTSTANDING time of 19:14.86!!! Keep up the great work!!

Senior Night!!! Here are all of our cross country seniors! Senior night starts at 4:30, girls race at 5, and guys race at 5:30 at Mason District Park.

Oatlands…..
One of THE best racing courses in Virginia. It is a very strategic course with lots of great hills. Special shout out to THE Hill which is by far the greatest and hardest hill on the course with its steepness and length. On the 27th, the team was able to toe the line and race with up 700 racers! Overall, a super fun and challenging race!🥳💪🏃♀️🏃♂️👟💨⛰️⛰️🌥️

On September 20th, the team had their long-anticipated first big road trip to an invitational!!! The team raced in Cary, North Carolina for the Adidas Cross Country Challenge! It was a success on the very unique course with lots of PRs!!!!! Also, our number one girls Rachel Vann got 16th place in her fantastic performance!!! 🥳🎉🏅🏃♂️🏃♀️💨👟👟⛰️⛰️⛰️⛰️
