What is Coaches' League?
5 Lead Coaches will each select 8 participants ages 7-18 to represent their team in a series of on-course competitive matches in 2023.

Any FTOC Participant who was a part of at least 2 sessions of classes/camps in 2022 and will be at least 7 years old on March 19, 2023 is eligible.

Tryouts will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:00-11:30am at Islands Golf Center.

Let’s talk about one of our alumni’s: Antonio DelCastillo! Antonio was not only a participant for five years, but also a Lead Instructor. Through the program, he fell in love with the game of golf and saw the value of the sport. First Tee not only taught him how to play golf, but how to connect with people through golf.

He was also the recipient for the $20,000 scholarship presented by First Tee & PGA Tour Superstore. He is currently a freshman at the University of Alabama on the pre-Med track and majoring in anthropology.

First Tee - Orange County is excited to hear about all the accomplishments you’re achieving in college and cannot wait to have you back over the summer as a Lead Coach! Keep up all the great work Antonio!

Volunteer Spotlight: Coach Bob! Many of you know him, but if you don’t, he has been a volunteer with us for the past 9 years. Coach Bob does almost everything: coach classes, help with special events, and fills in whenever we need extra help.

We had a SPOOKTACULAR event yesterday at the PGA Tour Superstore! Families were able to enjoy a putting obstacle course, closest to the pin and longest drive competition, scavenger hunt throughout the entire store, and a costume contest. A HUGE thank you to our FTOC Parent Council for coordinating this event and PGA Tour Superstore for hosting us!

Meet Coach Jeanne! She has been volunteering with us for 9 years! She is a volunteer coach for several classes, assists with special events, and always lends a helping hand when needed. Thank you Coach Jeanne for volunteering countless of hours with us! We appreciate your dedication to the participants.

We had another successful Wounded Warrior Project clinic this past Sunday with almost 60 participants! Families played fun games while practicing perseverance. We ended the golf clinic with Jersey Mike’s lunch, Yogurtland, and a raffle! Thank you for allowing us to use your facility.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Help raise awareness and wear pink to class this week! 💕👚

A fun night at Girl’s Golf building personalized tags for their golf bags. Everyone was positive, respectful, and extremely creative while designing their own tag. Each girl showcased their beautiful work and explained the idea behind their build. Nice job girls!

Q: What is “Player(s) of the day?
A: At the end of every First Tee class, the coaches all get together for a few minutes to discuss which participant(s) in class deserve to be named the "player of the day". The player of the day is the 1-3 participants that best exemplified the core lesson of the day during class, ex. showed respect, was a good sport, dealt well with challenges, etc. The player of the day is not necessarily who hit the most amazing golf shots of the day, but who best showed the character value discussed by the coaches. Players of the day are recognized at the end of class with a round of applause 👏🏽, a star ⭐️ on their name tag, an extra snack 🥨, and even a golf ball or other fun prize 🎉!

HAVE YOU HEARD OF COACHES’ LEAGUE?!

What is it?
• Lead coaches select players 7-18 to form a team.
• Teams compete at different golf courses (9 & 18 holes, different formats)
• Each player gets a chance to participate in 7 or more tournaments yearly.
• A fun and competitive way for on course exposure.
• 2023 teams will be announced in January! Stay tuned!

**If your child wants to be considered for next year’s team, they must remain active for at least 2 sessions/camps in 2022

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer coach, please submit an inquiry on our website firstteeorangecounty.org/get-involved/volunteer/. Our next training session will be held at Dad Miller GC on September 26th at 5:00pm.

During the training, volunteers will get to play a First Tee activity, learn the building blocks of the program, and then get a chance to help coach in their first mock class! At the end of the day, coaches will earn their First Tee polo shirt and Coach Name Tag.

A very big congratulations to Gabriella!! Out of 40 participants that attended the Leadership Summit, she was one of four who was awarded a $20,000 scholarship and selection into the First Tee College Scholarship Program. She was selected after participating in the First Tee Leadership Summit in partnership with PGA TOUR Superstore based on her intentional and innovative commitment to personal growth and development as leaders throughout the course of the program.

Coach Jason, Elijah Choi, Levi Lanting, and Ethan Gomez all played Marbella Country Club yesterday thanks to a generous donation from !Elijah was the lucky winner out of all the junior coaches, Levi had the “dirtiest” towel when meeting and greeting our donors while cleaning their golf ball and clubs, and Ethan was a participant speaker for our 2022 Charity Golf Tournament.
