Woman Accused of Attempting to Traffic Suspected Drugs Into Madison County Jail
ANDERSON, Ind. — A Madison County woman is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after investigators allege she attempted to deliver suspected controlled substances to an inmate at the Madison County Jail on two separate occasions.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation began after jail officials became aware of suspected trafficking involving inmate Damarcus Wright and his girlfriend, Keegan Moneyhun.
Investigators allege that Moneyhun previously obtained a legal-looking document and delivered it to Wright following a court hearing. The document was suspected of containing a substance known by street names including “Spice” or “Katy.”
The affidavit states that jail investigators reviewed recorded telephone calls between Wright and Moneyhun. During one of the calls, Moneyhun allegedly became upset with Wright after believing he had used some of the substance himself rather than selling it.
The suspected letter was later seized from Wright’s cell and submitted for testing by the Indiana State Police laboratory.
Second alleged attempt at Madison County Courthouse
The investigation continued into October 2, when jail officials allegedly intercepted another conversation between Wright and Moneyhun in which the two discussed a plan to get another letter to Wright through another inmate.
According to the affidavit, investigators learned that an inmate named Stephen Morales was scheduled to appear in Circuit Court 6. Investigators went to the courthouse and monitored Morales' hearing, but no item was passed to him inside the courtroom.
Investigators later located Moneyhun on courthouse security cameras. The affidavit states she was seen on the fourth floor near the information booth, where she reportedly asked where Circuit Court 6 was and whether court had already started.
Investigators then observed Moneyhun sitting on a bench near the courtroom.
According to the affidavit, jail officials continued monitoring recorded jail calls and heard Moneyhun speaking with Wright. Investigators were allegedly told that Moneyhun had hidden an envelope behind a trash can in the courthouse basement.
At approximately the same time, courthouse surveillance video allegedly showed Moneyhun removing an envelope from underneath her pant leg.
Investigators went to the basement and reportedly located a white envelope partially hidden behind a trash can near an elevator.
As investigators were collecting the envelope, Moneyhun reportedly exited an elevator and was taken into custody.
Woman allegedly admits involvement
The affidavit states that Moneyhun was advised of her rights and agreed to speak with investigators.
According to the affidavit, Moneyhun told investigators that Wright had arranged for someone known as “Nino” to deliver a bank paper to her residence the previous night. She allegedly placed the paper inside a blank envelope.
Moneyhun reportedly told investigators that Wright instructed her to take the envelope to the courthouse and hide it behind the basement trash can. She allegedly said she was then supposed to sit near Circuit Court 6 so the inmate who was supposed to retrieve the envelope would know where it had been hidden.
According to the affidavit, Moneyhun said the inmate was supposed to take the item back to Wright and described the inmate as a Hispanic male.
Moneyhun allegedly told investigators she suspected the paper had been treated with a drug but said she was not completely certain. She reportedly identified “Spice” or “Katy” as substances she believed could be involved because of Wright's alleged history with the drug.
The affidavit also states that Moneyhun acknowledged she knew attempting to pass the item into the jail was illegal.
Alleged first incident
Investigators also allege that Moneyhun admitted involvement in an earlier attempt to get an item to Wright.
According to the affidavit, Moneyhun said a woman had dropped off a blank envelope at her home before a previous court hearing. Moneyhun allegedly took the envelope to the courthouse and handed it to a white male inside the courtroom, who was then expected to deliver it to Wright.
Following her arrest, Moneyhun was transported to the Madison County Jail.
Charges requested
The affidavit requests that Moneyhun be charged with:
Two counts of Trafficking with an Inmate, Level 5 Felony
Two counts of Dealing in a Level I, II, or III Controlled Substance, Level 5 Felony
Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class A Misdemeanor
The allegations contained in the affidavit represent the investigators' account of the events. Moneyhun is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The final disposition of the case will be determined through the judicial process.
