One of the highlights of our Beginner Summer Camp was getting to experience vaulting with the amazing Mrs. Kristi Grove! Our campers challenged themselves in new ways, built confidence, and had so much fun trying something outside of their comfort zones.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Kristi for sharing her knowledge and making this such a memorable experience for our riders! 💙🐴

One of the most common compensations riders make is relying on their hands when their seat and leg aren’t providing enough support. Research in equestrian biomechanics has shown that effective riding begins with a stable, balanced position where the rider’s seat and legs create the foundation of communication with the horse.
When our position becomes unstable, it’s tempting to use our reins as a safety net. The result? We often create more tension, lose effectiveness in our aids, and make it harder for the horse to move freely and confidently.
That’s why sometimes we take away the safety net. By removing or limiting the use of our hands, riders are encouraged to rediscover balance, body awareness, and the power of an independent seat. When the seat and leg become the primary aids, the hands can return to their proper role: refining communication rather than creating it.
The best riders aren’t the ones with the strongest hands—they’re the ones with the strongest foundation. Get back to the basics, trust the process, and build the kind of position that allows your horse to truly shine.
