I forgot how powerful this book is.

When you get older you will have pain. You can be strong & have pain or you can be weak & have pain 🤷🏼‍♂️

Your choice

One of my passions is helping people realized the value of resistance training. RT has been demonstrated to improve metabolic health, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, mortality, sarcopenia, & improve bone health, body composition, & quality of life (PMIDs: 27580152, 30376511, 32493991, 35599175, 34763651, 35742181, 35191588, & 35968662)

Not only that but resistance training has actually shown to REDUCE chronic pain (PMID: 36805624 & 29889056)

But whenever someone gets an ouchie in the gym it seems like we have no shortage of ‘experts’ telling them to stop resistance training or stop loading their spine. This is so damaging. The human body is NOT fragile. You ARE resilient. In fact, over 50% of people over the age of 30 who are asymptomatic (they have no pain) have disc abnormalities including bulged and herniated discs but zero pain. Should we tell them to stop training?

If you are in intense pain from an acute injury, you may need to take time off of specific exercises or drastically regress (ie less volume, intensity, & weight) your training to get your pain symptoms under control. But the goal should be to start working back up & building back resilience once the pain is managed

Telling people to NEVER do certain exercises again is damaging, irresponsible, & creates the more damaging narrative that your body is fragile. It is NOT. In fact you can still build significant muscle into old age even in frail elderly (PMID: 29188577)

Stop with the BS narrative that if you have pain you shouldn’t lift weights. Done properly lifting weights HELPS with pain

This coming from someone who has dealt with multiple bulged & herniated discs in my low back & still came back to squat nearly 650 lbs and deadlift well over 700 lbs pain free in my 40s

You are RESILIENT. Choose to be strong 💪

Day 1/Week 1

This was a rough one. But I got it done!! Even trainers need to reset their nutrition and workouts. I’m excited for this new journey.

Hip Hinge 06/05/2024

I see this alot in my training the many of us do not use our hips properly. The hip hinge is a very important and basic movement our bodies are design to do. It enables us to squat (which alot of us have forgotten how to do ), to bending over without using our lower back. Many of us are primarily using our lower backs without the assistance of our hips. Which often leads to lower back pain. Below is a simple exercise that can lead to teaching your hips to mover properly.
**The video isn't the best but you get the idea😉

Never give up. Life events will sometimes get in the way of your progress. Acceptance is key, patience you give yourself. “Get back on the horse” and start again!! , *tthatscaresyou

Day 8…Do you ever have those days when you want to get something done and things always seems to get in the way???😡😡..

I’m feeling so good with my 5 to 7 day reset. I decided to continue past day seven and add 10 minutes of meditation to my morning routine. I’m so excited to get back to this practice. I got up 10 minutes early, Got all set up ready to go and guess what decides to start going off. The chirping of my smoke alarm, not just one of them but ALL of them. UGH!!! Don’t think calming my mind is going to happen today. But I’m not going to quit. There is always tomorrow.

Going into day 3. I found a substitute for my morning coffee. First start with hot water and lemon, throw my clothes on that I laid out the night before, put my shoes on and went for a 15 minute walk, even in the rain!! 💪🏻💪🏻 I’ve been doing that since day one and it seems to be working. Not really craving a coffee too much time. What have you noticed so far?

Day 2…The gym is a mess. Lol. It’s been a crazy busy day today, but I’m committed to moving every day even if it’s for only 15 minutes. The rower is my go to today, since it’s raining out side and my knee doesn’t like me to run lately. No matter what you can do today JUST DO IT!! If not 15 minutes go for 10. If not 10 go for 5. JUST MOVE!!

05/13/2024

Day One..The official start of my reset. My goal is really to cut back on my caffeine. So…hot water and lemon is my replacement. And to be honest it’s not too bad. 😂 And it’s has so, so many health benefits. I’ll let you know how it goes. Enjoy the day everyone.
