Operation Outdoor Freedom hosted two veterans last week on Blackwater River State Forest for an Eastern Wild Turkey hunt.

Great start to the 2026 Camp Prairie turkey hunt. Six veterans have tagged out, two to go. Thanks to the wounded warrior sportsman’s fund for supporting and cooking.

What a way to finish off the hunt. 80 year old Vietnam veteran tagged out on the second day. 8 veterans/8 turkeys.
Thanks to all the volunteers and guides who dedicated their time to making it an epic weekend.

Little late on this post but we had a great start to the opening weekend of turkey season. 4 vets and 4 turkeys. Great group of guides and veterans. Add in two hogs and call it good.

Great Florida Cattle Drive 2026. Give a shout out to the 16 veterans who completed the adventure. Cold, frost, rain and sunshine didn’t stop them. Thank you for persisting through it with me.

Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson is inviting wounded veterans to apply for upcoming Operation Outdoor Freedom hunting and fishing trips.
Led by the Florida Forest Service, Operation Outdoor Freedom provides recreational and rehabilitative opportunities to wounded veterans on state forests, agricultural lands, and private lands throughout Florida at no cost. Wounded veterans can apply online today for spots on upcoming Operation Outdoor Freedom events.

What a way to end the 2025 Gator season. The veterans harvested at 11 Gators with a massive 12’5” Gator weighing in at 660 pounds. Thanks to the wounded warrior sportsman’s fun for supporting the event.
