Every art has its language, and ka-ra-te begins with words that shape character before technique.

*Osu* is more than a word, it is the soul of karate. It means respect and perseverance, to endure pressure, to push through pain, to never give up. Students say it to acknowledge, to thank, to show they are ready.

*Yame* means stop. It teaches instant control and discipline. The moment it is called, all action ceases. That obedience is what keeps training safe and builds true self-mastery.

*Hajime* means begin. It is the spark that starts combat, the call to act with full commitment and no hesitation. When you hear it, doubt disappears.

*Kiai* is the spirit shout. It is not just yelling, it is the release of all your energy, breath, and focus into one moment. It intimidates, it empowers, and it turns a technique into an expression of spirit.
