A new season at Slater Family Ice Arena starts from the ground up. Literally.
Before the first skate, before the first puck drops, there’s a whole process that most people never see. Fresh ice, painted lines, logos set into the surface. It takes real skill and a lot of hours to get it right.
We’re getting ready for another great season and we can’t wait to have everyone back out here. Stay tuned for programming updates, public skating schedules, and more coming soon.

Congratulations to our very own Gabbie, Grace, Brock, Alli, and Jack on graduating from BGSU this weekend! 🧡🎓
These five have given so much to Slater Family Ice Arena, and we couldn’t be prouder to watch them walk across that stage. The rink won’t be the same without them, but we know they’re headed somewhere great.
Oh, and our own Luke also snuck in a master’s degree somewhere in between all of this. Not bad either.
Once a Falcon, always a Falcon. Congrats to all six of you. You earned it.

These two photos were taken just a short time apart. The crew has made serious progress and we’re all the way to to bare concrete. In the first photo you can see some of the paint residue, and in the second it’s been all clean. What started as a full sheet of ice on Monday is nothing now.

This is what the end of a season looks like behind the scenes.
The crew is on the ice right now pulling it up in sheets, and the boards and dasher banners are already coming down and moving to the concourse. Most people only ever see this building when it’s game-ready. Today it looks a little different.
