Last Sunday I had the pleasure of conducting a Judo clinic at Milestone Martial Arts.
I would like to thank Leandro Lorenco for hosting the event and all the participants who attended.
I had a lot of fun and it was great seeing so many familiar faces once again.
My intention was simple: to bring judokas together, reconnect with old friends, and share a little of the knowledge and experience I have gained through the years. I invited a number of judokas and judo instructors and encouraged them to share the experience with their students.
Unfortunately, once again, Las Vegas Judo reminded me of something I dealt with for over 20 years—the lack of unity and the lack of interest in working together to help grow Judo in our city.
Too often, ego and personal agendas get in the way of what should be our common goal.
A week before my clinic, Leandro hosted a well-organized tournament, and I noticed the same thing: very limited participation from many of the clubs in Las Vegas. It is sad to see, but sadly, nothing seems to change.
I know some people may disagree with me or not like my opinion, and that’s perfectly fine.
But I was part of the Las Vegas Judo community for over 20 years, and from my perspective, many of the
same problems still exist today.
I don’t see things getting better, and that is disappointing because
Judo deserves more.
In a way, I am glad I am far away from that environment now.
Distance has given me a different perspective and allowed me to focus on what I enjoy most—teaching, sharing knowledge, and helping students grow without getting caught up in the politics and divisions that have held our community back for so long.
That said, my respect and appreciation go to Milestone Martial Arts and Leandro Lorenco for continuing to keep Judo alive and providing opportunities for athletes and coaches to come together.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event.

Thanks to Leandro Lorenco and Milestone Martial Arts for the opportunity to teach this clinic.
I had a great time and truly enjoyed sharing the mat with everyone who attended.
It was especially
meaningful to reconnect with some of my former Ryoku Judo students and spend time together on
the mats once again.
Thank you to all the participants for your hard work, enthusiasm, and support. Clinics like this
remind me why I love teaching judo.
I hope we can do it again in the future and continue sharing our passion for judo together.
Thank you, everyone!
