Scranton Tennis Club The Scranton Tennis Club is an outdooor seasonal non-profit membership-based club that offers lessons, leagues and more for all ages and levels of players.

The Scranton Tennis Club is a non-profit outdoor seasonal membership club that provides opportunities for all levels and ages of tennis players from beginners through advanced. We are located on the Morgan Highway in Clarks Summit offering a convenient site to enjoy a friendly match on our well-maintained Har-Tru Clay Courts. If you are looking for play opportunities, to make new friends or learn or get back to playing, STC provides a welcoming environment for all players. Affordable memberships are available for individuals, families and students. New seasons begin in April. Membership includes:
- Access to six well-maintained, fenced in Har-Tru clay courts
- Organized play opportunities including leagues, groups and tournaments
- Clubhouse with activity area, lockers, showers and bathrooms
- Club Tennis Pro available for private and group lessons
- Free 'Stroke of the Week' instructional clinics for members
- No charge for court time
- Guests of members are welcome for a small fee
- Summer junior tennis camp and weekly clinics for an extra fee
- Events including US Open Bus Trip, Mixed Doubles Mixers and more.

All of the club champions have been crowned.

Unseeded William Arp took the Men's A Singles title with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over 2nd-seeded Will Cohen in the annual Scranton Tennis Club Championships. Arp was coasting, having won the first set and was up 3-0 in the second set when Cohen picked up his game and almost pulled out the second set. To reach the final Arp upended the defending champion Johnny Sinclair 7-6(2), 6-2 in one semifinal, while Cohen overpowered Alfred Betts 6-0, 6-2. Arp won the PIAA District 2 doubles championship this spring with Liam Farrell.

William's sister, Susan, struggled to win the first set against Amishi Amit, but upped her level in the second set to take the Women's A Singles title 7-5, 6-2. The semifinals followed script with top-seeded Arp knocking out Nicole Sinclair 6-4, 6-0 and 2nd-seeded Amit defeating Jody Jackman 6-1, 6-0. Susan Arp plays for Messiah University, while Amit is the #1 singles player for Abington Heights.

Tom Occhipinti won his second title in the tournament, defeating Mike Goffer 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the Men's B Singles event. He and Jack Strain defeated Kevin and Joe Vinson 6-4, 6-0 to take the Men's B Doubles title.

In the Men's A Doubles final Curtis Althouse repeated as STC Club Champion, pairing up with Steve Lehan to defeat William Arp and Roman Donnelly 6-3, 6-2. Althouse and Lehan, who last won together in 2019, crashed the net at every opportunity to keep their young opponents off balance. Arp and Donnelly are Abington Heights teammates. In semifinal action Althouse and Lehan overpowered Scott Wiss and Stephen Hague 6-0, 6-3, while William Arp and Roman Donnelly knocked out the top-seeded duo of John and Johnny Sinclair 6-2, 7-5.

The Arp family earned a third title when Kelly Arp, William and Susan's mother, paired with Amishi Amit to defeat Jody Jackman and Chris Lange 6-1, 6-1 in the Women's A Doubles final. Arp and Amit reached the final by upending the top-seeded duo of Susan Arp and Nicole Sinclair 6-4, 7-6, while Jackman and Lange barely got by Nicole Kutos and Chris Wiss 6-3, 4-6, (10-7).

In the Women's B Doubles final Sophia Castagnaro and Arpana Asawa outsteadied Joan Davis and Joan Theilgard 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) to take the title.

The STC tournament championships continued today from morning until late afternoon. There were some hotly contested matches with underdogs and favorites all finding some success. Three matches in today’s first rounds of the STC championships were decided by 11-9 third set tie-breakers. Read all about those matches and all of the other first round action below.
