FAREWELL TO A BLACK BELT LEGEND — JAMES LEW (1952–2026)

The Black Belt family mourns the passing of our dear friend and Black Belt Hall of Famer James Lew—a martial artist, Hollywood stunt legend, Emmy Award-winning stunt coordinator, and a man whose presence was simply unforgettable.

For more than five decades, James helped bring martial arts to life on the screen, appearing in and contributing to more than 140 film and television productions.

Whether he was on camera for a few seconds or behind it creating the action, you remembered James Lew.

In 2024, we had the honor of inducting James into the Black Belt Hall of Fame, alongside Simon Rhee and Jeff Imada, recognizing the extraordinary contribution of stunt performers to martial arts and entertainment.

The love James received that evening from his peers and fans was something we will never forget. But beyond the credits, championships and awards was the James we loved: humble, gracious, funny, passionate and always happy to be surrounded by the martial arts community.

In his final days, James was surrounded by friends, with messages and voices of love reaching him from around the world. James was not alone.

He will not be forgotten. He was unforgettable. Rest in peace, James Lew.

Your life, friendship and contribution to martial arts will remain part of Black Belt forever.

The Israeli Arab police officer who saved the lives of 300 Israelis on October 7.

Israeli Arab activist Yousef Haddad tells the remarkable story of Israeli Arab police officer Remo Al Huzeil, one of Israel’s heroes of October 7.

Haddad recounts that Remo Al Huzeil, a Muslim Arab police officer from Rahat in southern Israel, woke up that morning with a bad feeling. Although he normally carried only one magazine, he decided to take an extra one. That extra magazine ended up saving many lives. He got up at 4:30 a.m. and was due to begin his shift at 6:00 a.m., about half an hour before the Hamas invasion from Gaza began.

According to Haddad, Remo fought courageously, killing numerous terrorists. After he eventually ran out of ammunition, he found an unlocked vehicle with a full tank of fuel amid the chaos and began evacuating Israelis. For the next three hours, he drove back and forth countless times, rescuing people from the line of fire and bringing them to safety. In total, he saved the lives of around 300 Israelis.

A true hero.
