Never taking for granted a moment in time that we get to spend outside pursuing elk in their rugged and unforgiving backyard.

Don’t trust—definitely verify.

Elk sight tape printed ✅ and confirmed. Every arrow that goes into my quiver has been tested and verified. It only took me all day. 🤣

Well if Mike Lee thinks it’s a good idea then it must be 🤣

Let’s add more roads since we can’t seem to effectively maintain the ones that are already established? What am I missing?

Rescinding the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule— make it make sense to me?

A few things from both bucks this week:

I shot both quartering toward me. On pronghorn, I’m comfortable with that shot selection with my setup.

**SETUP:**
415-grain arrow
150-grain Evolution Hyde glue-in
10-grain collar
82 # Mathews ARC

**BUCK #1:**
I was actually able to stand up and shoot out of the blind—I believe it was a TIDEWE. Distance was **59.2 yards**.

The arrow traveled through the chest and stopped in the opposite leg. From the video, I believe it actually broke the leg.

I did **not** hit the blind on the shot. The poor arrow flight you see on video was most likely from the lighted nock. I still haven't found a 4mm lighted nock that's manufactured consistently enough for me to fully trust. I like using them when I have a cameraman because they make the arrow much easier to track on video. Otherwise, I run the **AAE IP4**.

After that first buck, I shot every hunting arrow in my quiver to make sure there weren't any other issues going into the next hunt. Everything checked out. I also replaced all the broadhead blades after shooting them.

**BUCK #2:**
Very similar shot angle with very similar results. The arrow went completely through the chest cavity and again stopped in the back of the opposite leg.

Both bucks went **less than 60 yards** after the shot.

Joel Maxfield says it best:

**“The most important component of everything we do is a little piece of molded plastic.”**

When everything else in your setup is dialed, it’s crazy how much one tiny component can affect the entire system.

Pronghorn will have you stalking from sunup to sundown. Double-digit miles, heat exhaustion, belly-crawling through sagebrush and rattlesnake country. Cactus in your hands and knees, endless blown stalks, and just enough pain to keep you humble.

I can’t think of a better warmup for elk season. 🏹🦌

What’s your primary Broadhead selection for the fall?

At the end of Day 2, I was able to make a pretty aggressive move and close the deal on this beautiful buck. Spot-and-stalk bowhunting in the beautiful prairie country of eastern Montana—doesn’t get much better than this!
