When I’m not coaching or facilitating…
One of my favorite activities is dancing.
I’ve always been a dancer.
From decades of social dancing (East Coast Swing and Latin), I’ve observed how many barriers people have to overcome to embrace the dancer within. It is usually fear related.
Not only does dancing bring me immense joy, but so does encouraging and supporting people to free the dancer inside of them.
Last night while dancing, I met someone who had never been to a social dance. I helped him experience the dance floor. Later, we got to talking. I could tell he was tentative and nervous about dancing. I asked what was holding him back. “I’m afraid of experiencing bliss,” he shared.
That vulnerability enabled us to have a real conversation.
As a coach, I know all too well that stepping outside your comfort zone and acknowledging what is getting in the way are crucial for breaking through barriers.
Having a supportive, non-judgmental person to listen, ask questions, and help you identify new ways of approaching the situation means getting unstuck more quickly, and experiencing bliss or whatever emotion it is that you’re curious about.
