🚨 After developing into an absolute monster this summer, the goal changes.

🏈 In season, we don’t need to keep chasing maximal development. We need to preserve the qualities that keep an athlete dangerous, durable, and available.

🧠 Three abilities matter enormously:

✅ Single-leg eccentric strength — control force when the body is landing, cutting, or absorbing contact.

✅ Horizontal deceleration — own the ability to stop, redirect, and control momentum.

✅ Muscle endurance through weak angles — maintain position and force production when fatigue starts exposing the body.

🛡️ Lose any one of those and you create a weak link.

At SP, we don’t do weak links.

People ask, “How have your athletes suffered only 10 ACL injuries in nearly 13 years?”

This is part of the answer.

📅 We train 12 months per year.

Not always for performance.

Not always to get stronger.

Not always to get faster.

But always for availability.

Because the best ability an athlete can have in season is the ability to keep showing up.

Labor Day is here, and we’re soaking up every last bit of that late-summer feeling. 🌞Enjoy the holiday!

🚨 Smart D1 coaches recruit trajectory—not just statistics.

For the coaches who speak my language, pay attention to Michael Michael McNamara

I’ve worked with him through 6’7”, then 6’8”, and now 6’9” flirting with 6’10”. In Massachusetts, he’s viewed like a 4. Put him in Indiana and he looks a lot more like a developing 3.

📈 Is he undersized? No.
📈 Is he underdeveloped? Absolutely.

🤔 That’s what makes him interesting.

🥛 Michael is essentially a half-gallon of milk a day away from adding real mass quickly. Two pounds a week changes the conversation fast—for coaches and opponents.

🏇 He has the stamina of a thoroughbred.
🤸 The athleticism of a gymnast.
🧠 And the mindset I’ve seen in every legitimate D1 athlete I’ve ever coached.

He wears agony on his face very well 😂

❌ But he never quits.

✅ Finishes every workout.
✅ Never skips a rep.
✅ Always says thank you.

🤮 Today, three high-level athletes either threw up or tapped out.

Michael looked at me and said:

“What’s next?”

📈 That’s trajectory.

✏️ That’s the part smart coaches recruit.

🚨 ACL prevention truly comes down to deceleration. 🏃‍♀️ Anyone can sprint, but how an athlete stops is what really matters. 🛑 The cue is simple: Sprint, then stop. Problems arise if the athlete leans back, loses trunk position, or lets the knee collapse into a bad angle. 🧠 Instead, we aim for: ✅ Hips back. ✅ Trunk stacked. ✅ Clean knee tracking. ✅ Force absorbed through the whole system. ✅ Stopping under control, and then repeating. We start at 5 yards, then 10, then longer, as the body learns to absorb more force with increased speed. Acceleration often gets all the attention, but deceleration is where durability is built. ⚠️ If you can’t stop it, you don’t truly own the speed.
