The DVCA provides an opportunity for skill-building, playing, and friend-making in volleyball.

Each summer, the Detroit Volleyball Coaches Association gives girls ages 11 - 18 an opportunity to develop their volleyball skills through coach-led drills and competitive play on numerous courts, and make new friends among the more than 300 girls that attend and participate. Coaches are from local college, high school and AAU teams as well as current and former college players. Proper technique, game strategy and a love of the game are our foundation.

More volunteer coaches are needed. It's a chance for you give back to the game and pay it forward for the girls, learn new drills and teaching techniques, build relationships, and help develop the pipeline of talent in the city!

Have you been making your DS/LIB/Defense videos all wrong?!

All those dives, sprawls and rolls might show your hustle, but why do you have to hustle so much on defense? It's great that you have the skills, but you also need to show defensive knowledge.

College coaches would rather see that you:
โœ…read the offense correctly (setters and hitters)
โœ…were stopped on your dig (calm, balanced, ready)
โœ…were quick to the spot (because you spotted the setter's cues)
โœ…saw the hole in the block (and moved to the right spot)
โœ…had an assist on a hitter kill! (because you have "good hands.")

And as reminder: don't worry about a soundtrack. Most coaches listen with the sound off.

Achievement in sports is rarely about luck.

Opportunity + Preparation = Success.

Be luckier when given the chance by putting in the work and developing your skills!

Are you making videos to help with recruitment? When you send links to coaches, what's the title? (You are sending the links, right?)

Former NCAA Division 1 volleyball coach, Jen Fry, shared some tips to help you help coaches, scouts and recruiters.

Coaches are watching videos of dozens - if not hundreds - of players. Make it plain and simple to help the coaches remember who they are watching and to be able to find you again if they see you out.
