Final: Cardinals 5, Tigers 3
What a bounce-back win in Detroit tonight.
After falling behind early on a Kerry Carpenter 2-run homer, the Cardinals stayed patient and flipped the game in one big moment — a 4-run 5th inning that completely changed the momentum.
The biggest swing? Iván Herrera coming through clutch with a 2-run single that gave St. Louis the lead for good.
The offense didn’t need a ton of hits — just timely ones. The Cardinals finished with 6 hits and 5 runs, getting production across the lineup with contributions from Nolan Gorman, Pedro Pagés, and Victor Scott II, all driving in runs.
On the mound, Kyle Leahy set the tone, going 5 innings and allowing just 2 runs, keeping things under control after that early deficit. The bullpen did the rest, locking it down late and shutting the door in the 9th to secure the win.
Detroit had their chances, but left runners stranded and couldn’t capitalize late, finishing with 6 hits and 3 runs despite Carpenter staying hot at the plate.
After dropping the first two in the series, the Cardinals showed fight and salvaged the finale in a gritty road win.
That’s how you respond

“Eight Runs That Shook Busch Stadium”
Under the bright lights of Opening Day at Busch Stadium, it started like a celebration… and quickly turned into a gut punch for the home crowd.
The St. Louis Cardinals came out sharp. Early energy, a big moment from rookie JJ Wetherholt—who launched a home run in his MLB debut had the stadium buzzing. For a while, it felt like the Cardinals were in control.
But baseball has a way of flipping the script.
By the sixth inning, the Tampa Bay Rays stormed back—and then some.
Hit after hit piled up. A two-run single here, a sacrifice fly there, and suddenly the scoreboard told a different story: 7–1 Rays.
The crowd went quiet. Opening Day magic? It looked like it belonged to Tampa Bay.
Then came the bottom half of that same inning.
What happened next felt less like a rally and more like an avalanche.
The Cardinals refused to fold. One batter reached. Then another. Line drives turned into runs. The Rays’ bullpen unraveled as St. Louis stacked hit after hit—five straight at one point—pulling within striking distance.
DRaysBay
Sacrifice flies tied it.
The stadium came back to life.
And then—Alec Burleson stepped in.
With one swing, everything changed.
A towering two-run homer blasted into the St. Louis night, flipping the game completely. From down six runs to suddenly ahead, 9–7 Cardinals.
Busch Stadium erupted.
From there, it was about holding on.
The bullpen locked it down, surviving a tense ninth inning with the tying runs threatening. But the Cardinals didn’t blink.
When the final out landed, the comeback was complete.
Final: Cardinals 9, Rays 7
What started as a near-collapse became one of the most electric Opening Day comebacks in recent memory—a game where one inning rewrote everything.
Eight runs. One swing. A season that began with belief.
