RACE REPORT OCTOBER 27, 2026
Following the longest layoff since opening, after a month the drop cloth came off, and Coyote Raceway resumed action with a gathering of five. When family is in need, there isn't any decision to be considered, only action. Once again, a big thanks to Wonder Woman for delicious handmade cheeseburgers and Parkside brats grilled to perfection, and that yummy Aldi potato salad- it's good to race on a full belly!
Trans Am opened the action with Dewey, Joe, Beverly and Tom laying down the first heat rubber. Steve came in the second heat and matched Dewey's run of 27 laps, Beverly and Joe battling in out not far behind, and Tom soldiering on getting accustomed to track, cars and controller. As the race progressed, Steve's Parnelli Jones Mustang just outpaced the competition, clocking best laps on all four lanes in the 6.4's! Dewey had his struggles and Beverly outpaced both Dewey's and Joe's best lap times on all four lanes, just too many errors cost Wonder Woman track position- Steve needs to step up his driver coaching and development program! At the finish Steve closed the win with 109 laps, Dewey second on 105 laps, Joe just sneaking past Beverly for the final podium spot, both at 102 laps, and Tom completed the order. Fastest race lap was Steve at 6.433 on white lane.
And then the one everyone likes-Vintage Prototype Sports Cars- I didn't anticipate when creating this series out of re-purposed ancient Flexi2, JK scorpion, and Trinity chassis with unbalanced 30' 16D motors covered with Lexan bodies of the Ferrari 512, Chaparral 2D, Porsche 917, and Ford Mk4, fitted with head and taillights, alternating every other heat in darkness, that it would be this MUCH FUN! The racing started out a struggle for Steve as the Ford Mk4 sputtered and sparked in the opening laps, dropping him to the back of the order. After cleaning off what may have been an excess of braid juice, the car performed flawlessly, and Steve began to claw his way back up the order. As the heats progressed the race developed into a close three car battle between Joe, Dewey and Steve, with Beverly within striking distance. Then the owner of the series (having won ALL previous VPSC races) Dewey came to white lane (the Chaparral proving to be the fastest car) and Steve thought it's all over for me, but the champ struggled with his controller settings, car and track and subsequently lost the race in that lane. At the finish, Steve won on 131 laps, Joe edged Dewey by a mere 4-5 car lengths coming thru the banking both completing 129 laps, Bev in fourth at 125 laps, and Tom completed the order. In his tremendous charge, Joe destroyed the VPSC track record on RED LANE at 4.796- MAN he had that FERRARI smokin'!
