Five years ago, I bought this studio because I was scared Pilates was going to disappear from Encinitas.

Turns out I didn’t need to worry. Group reformer studios are everywhere now.

Here’s the thing though, that’s not really what Spring Theory is. Never was.

We’re not chasing a trend. We’re the studio still teaching Pilates to individuals so that they learn and grow. We’re teaching Pilates the way it was before it was only “reformer Pilates”

5 years in, and our niche is still just as clear as it was on day one in 2011 with the original owner.

We’re celebrating 5 years on 8/28 from 4-6pm. Come celebrate, make some art, and get a snap of your work in action.

Calling all parents- our season is here

The most unhinged reel I’ve ever created, but this 1996 commercial from last year lives rent free in my mind. I was so offended by this sentiment as a child.

Seriously though. It’s our time. See you feeling so free in the studio. Teachers, I’ll miss seeing you during the day but we are so grateful for you and here to help you recover after work.

I love our clients, but one of the biggest reasons I bought a whole studio was to keep other teachers employed and working together. Nothing keeps me motivated like practice time with my collaborators.

When I bought the studio after lockdown in 2021, so many skilled teachers had started teaching on their own. When the opportunity came up, I wanted to help keep the band together.

Bodily research with other humans is important work, and it’s still the whole point for me as an owner.

Five years later, we’re still here, working and learning together.

There’s something almost primal about moving in unison with another person. Your nervous system relaxes when it senses you’re not doing this alone.

Matching someone else’s breath, their rhythm, their pace is a shortcut to empathy. Your body understands before your mind does. That’s the secret magic of a shared workout and teaching environment.

Here’s the scheme: get certified → train new teachers → they train new teachers → repeat.

Following this trend for fun, but here’s the truth: most Pilates trainings will take your money no questions asked. There’s no real qualifying process, anyone can pay, get the education, and eventually be certified.

I’ve literally been coached that teacher trainings are ‘a great revenue stream.’ And sure, they can be. But knowing the exercises isn’t the same as knowing how to teach.
