Enhancing your timber stand offers a variety of benefits for your farm and your deer herd.

Selective logging opens the canopy, letting more sunlight reach the forest floor. This encourages the growth of nutritious plants and browse that deer rely on. Hinge cutting further stimulates dense, diverse underbrush, creating ideal bedding areas for wildlife.

When paired with other management practices, like controlled burns, these techniques help create a healthier, more sustainable forest that supports both your land and its wildlife for years to come.

Already missing it.

Controlled burning, or prescribed fire, is a powerful tool for improving deer habitat and maintaining a healthy farm ecosystem.

When done correctly every 3–5 years, a burn removes old or dead brush and foliage, making way for fresh, nutrient-rich growth. This new growth not only provides more nutritious forage for your deer herd but also creates diverse areas for bedding, protection, and feeding—supporting a stronger, healthier population overall.
